Book Recs: 10 LGBT+ Sci-Fi/Fantasy Books by LGBT+ Authors (2)

It’s been a while since I did one of these LGBT+ books by LGBT+ authors posts (you can find the first one here), so I thought it was about time to do another! Whether you’re seeing this during Pride Month when I’m posting it or stumbling upon this at a later date, hopefully you can find some great books and support some great LGBT+ creators 🙂

*If you’re considering buying any of these books from Amazon US, I’d appreciate it if you use my links! It will help support this blog at no additional cost to you!*

Letters for Lucardo Vol. 1 by Otava Heikkilä

This is the first of two comics on my list, and this one is about a relationship between an immortal vampire(?) and a 60-something-year-old man. I love the diversity in this one and the way it bucks the trope of immortals dating teenagers.

The Fever King by Victoria Lee

This is the only YA on my list today, and I would say it’s mature YA as it deals with a lot of heavy topics. It’s kind of sci-fi/dystopian about characters with abilities like technopathy, and the characters and relationships between them are really well-written. It’s also got a lot of great diversity.

Triad Blood by ‘Nathan Burgoine

These urban fantasy books have a unique and interesting take on supernaturals, complex plots, and a vampire, an incubus, and a witch as main characters!

Stake Sauce by RoAnna Sylver

I have to admit this one didn’t work for me, but I know a lot of people love it! It’s got a punk vampire and deals with grief and coping and has all sorts of LGBT+ rep including trans, gray aro/ace, m/m, and polyamory.

The Glamour Thieves by Don Allmon

This cool urban fantasy + cyberpunk mash-up series is gritty and raunchy and I absolutely loved the voices of the flawed main characters, one of whom is an orc, the other an elf!

Black Snow by EAB

This one is vaguely a genderbent, m/m high fantasy retelling of Snow White, and I just really loved these characters and their romance.

Trans Liberty Riot Brigade by L. M. Pierce

I did have some issues with this book, but it’s gritty and grungy dystopian story with a really unique voice. It’s also got a great message and is one of the only SFF books I’ve come across that has intersex rep.

The Beast Without by Christian Baines

These urban fantasy books about a vampire and werewolf are somewhat violent and dark with an interesting dynamic between the characters.

Chester 5000 XYV by Jess Fink

I gotta be honest, the first graphic novel in this duology didn’t really work for me, but I absolutely adored the second! They’re both a cool mash-up of steampunk, erotica, comic, and silent film, and you can even read them for free as webcomics! (Warning, they’re super NSFW!)
Amazon // Goodreads // My Review

The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards

This is such a unique urban fantasy that almost feels like a bit of an urban and high fantasy mash-up with super cool world-building, super lovable characters, and adorable friendships and relationships!

Technopathy sounds kinda interesting , and that cover of The Fever King jumps out at me. I might like that one. Also The Glamour Thieves I remember you reviewing at some point, and I always liked the sound of that.

I actually see a lot of people complaining that there are no or very few LGBT+ characters in science fiction and fantasy. But I think there are a lot of them — and even more so coming these days then ever. I think the first time I saw an LGBT+ character in a fantasy was Cassandra Calre’s The Mortal Instruments series. Magnus and Alec. But I see from your reviews there are a lot of LGBT+ friendly fantasy books, and I am so excited for Adam Silvera’s fantasy novel coming out in 2020!

It really frustrates me that people complain about that because most of the people complaining refuse to even look at indie or self-pub books. But LGBT+ books and creators aren’t going to start getting more publishing deals if no one supports the books that are already out there. Anyway, it’s great to see more and more LGBT+ books getting written and published!
