Bookish News: 10 Queer SFF Books I’m Excited For in 2024 (Part 1)

Guess what’s back… back… back… Back again… ‘gain… ‘gain…

It’s queer sci-fi/fantasy books I’m excited for! That’s what’s back back back!

I’m doing two parts again because I’ll stick to books releasing in the first half of the year now and do another one of these halfway through the year. I’m also sticking to standalones or new series.

So many great-sounding books coming out that it was hard to choose just ten for this. But I did, so check them out and maybe find some new books to get excited for with me!

Side note, do you see these covers? I didn’t even choose these based on covers, how are they all so beautiful??

Evergreen by Devin Greenlee

Something I love is books about uncommon supernaturals, so I am so excited for a book about a dryad! A teen boy dryad discovering the outside world, with a bit of romance and danger.

Born of Scourge by S. Jean

Believe it or not, I’ve been wanting a book about a star in humanoid form (really specific, I know), and that’s what this one is! An angry star who wants to eradicate humans for all the harm they’ve done to his fellow stars, until he starts to get to know some and fall for one. Who doesn’t love a good reluctant feelings romance and friendship?
Amazon // Goodreads

Otherworldly by F. T. Lukens

A nonbinary teen meets a supernatural boy who is on the run from dangerous creatures and needs a human’s help. I love the sound of this! Especially because they also strike a bargain and are stuck with each other until they can work it out.

Evocation by S.T. Gibson

So this book (first in series) has a character who is a medium for a secret society, the Devil coming for him, an ex-boyfriend he turns to for help, old feelings resurfacing, and a possible polyam relationship with his ex’s wife. Yes, please? Sign me up! I especially love the “exes with feelings resurfacing” trope. So much angst potential.

The Stars Too Fondly by Emily Hamilton

Described as a sapphic rom-com, this sounds like an interesting space adventure! About some twenty-somethings who accidentally steal a space ship. Also a sort of enemies-to-lovers romance and mysteries and holograms and found family.

Take All of Us by Natalie LeifInfinity Alchemist by Kacen CallenderDeath's Country by R. M. RomeroThe Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian HuangThe Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin

Take All of Us by Natalie Leif

A sort of zombie apocalypse, unlikely allies, a disabled main character, in love with his best friend, and probably a whole bunch of emotion when things go wrong and said best friend leaves him behind and the MC sets out to find him before the parasite takes him over. So many reasons I think I’m going to love this!

Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender

This sounds like YA + dark academia + magic + polyamory + sorta unlikely allies + nonbinary/trans rep + POC rep, and just, heck yeah!

Death’s Country by R.M. Romero

Lots of polyamory relationships this year! Sounds like another great one, about two teens who go into the Underworld to get their girlfriend back, one of whom already died once and made a deal to come back to life and may now be in danger by going back. Also the description of the Underworld sounds neat, and the other setting is Miami, which I feel like I don’t see often despite how well-known a city it is.

The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang

This one is about two men being reincarnated and finding each other again and again throughout time, but it sounds like there’s more to it than that. I get a sense of tension or danger or mystery or twistiness from the description, and I’m intrigued!

The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin

A former Tzar has to find a way to kill his ex who has died, resurrected, become immortal, and taken over the country. Except he doesn’t really want to kill the man he once loved, and also he’s now in love with his spymaster who’s helping. Just look at all those angsty, entangled feelings! Not to mention all the magic and intrigue. Definitely sounds like my kinda book!

Evergreen sounds interesting with a dryad, I’ve read a book with a dryad last year and would love to see more of them. Otherwordly was already on my wishlist as I saw it on another blog, it sounds really good! The Stars Too Fondly sounds interesting too, I wonder how she accidentally steals a space ship and I love the found family trope. I’ll look up Infinity Alchemist too.

Lots of unheard-of dynamics and premises, especially “An angry star who wants to eradicate humans for all the harm they’ve done to his fellow stars, until he starts to get to know some and fall for one.” Honestly, I’m not a fan of the polyamory trend, but to each their own!

I VERY much need The Stars Too Fondly and The Emperor and the Endless Palace! I am so excited for both of those! I am also quite curious about Death’s Country too (I mean- that cover, how can I not!?) so I will keep an eye out for it, too! Great choices!

Since I have been so good at avoiding new releases I can say none of these are currently on my TBR. I love the cover for Otherworldly and it looks interesting too which is good. I also like the sound of The Emperor and the Endless Palace I love the idea of a couple finding each other again and again.
