Ahhhhh this post was so hard. It’s been sitting in my drafts forever because I just could not find ten covers I loved that had only black, white, and yellow. I guess yellow on its own is a hard color to work with since there aren’t a whole lot of usable shades, and it can be hard to see yellow against a white background. It’s also very bright and could end up hurting people’s eyes if not used well.
But I did finally manage to find some great covers! So here they are 🙂
My favorites are Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor and Darkhaven by A.F.E. Smith. I’ve always loved the covers in that Laini Taylor series. I love color pop, I love the fonts used, and I love the whole design. It’s so eye-catching! And the Darkhaven one really stands out with the minimalist white background (that has a kind of crumpled look) and then that POP of color in the beautiful pegasus/unicorn.
The Final Raven by Finian Black, Summerland by Hannu Rajaniemi, and Every Mountain Made Low by Alex White all have a similar look with that solid, bright shade of yellow and interesting use of silhouettes.
The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli looks cool with the lips and the blade and the sparkly effect. Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young has really awesome use of shadows and color to give a sinister look and make the weapon stand out. The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin is pretty with the skyline and the sparkly sky. I love the unique paper cut-out silhouette look on The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald and the way it shows both above and below ground. And Jeremiah Jones is another eye-catching one with lots of yellow and a cool effect with the birds.
