Cover Characteristics: Book Covers featuring Cemeteries

This topic was right up my alley because I read mostly paranormal and urban fantasy. And you know what paranormal and urban fantasy has got a lot of? Cemeteries. Between all the vampires and ghosts and witches and necromancers, I didn't have to look very hard.

But that also made this an especially fun topic for me since I really do LOVE all of these book covers. It was hard just to narrow it down and harder yet to choose a favorite, but I managed yet again, and having too many choices is still better than not having enough!

Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. This week’s topic is:

Books Covers featuring Cemeteries

Pin the Collage!

Graveyard Guardians Series by Jennifer Malone Wright

Keeper of the Peace by Jennifer Malone Wright | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

I really like the font and the use of color.

The Ghost and the Graveyard by Genevieve Jack

I feel like you don’t see a lot of book covers with just legs, but it works, and I like the swirly fog. (It’s also a great book with my favorite female character ever!)

The Vampire Shrink by Lynda Hilburn

The title is certainly catchy, but I really do like the black, white, and teal color scheme plus the awesome grave-filled background.

The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett

It’s just really pretty with a great font, and I do sometimes really like these graphic-type covers.

A Vampire’s Remorse by Sasha George

A Vampire's Remorse by Sasha George | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

This one is like a gorgeous painting. Plus, vampire got style. Is it a man? Is it a woman? I don’t know, but those boots are fabulous.

Alex Craft Series by Kalayna Price

Grave Witch by Kalayna Price | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Grave Dance by Kalayna Price | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Grave Visions by Kalayna Price | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

I like the first one best because it looks the most interesting and the red really pops, but they’re all nice.

Gwen Sparks Series by Stephanie Nelson

Craved by Stephanie Nelson | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Deceived by Stephanie Nelson | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Coveted by Stephanie Nelson | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

I especially love the second one because THAT RED DRESS. But also, I really like the art style or photo manipulation or whatever it is.

Inception by Bianca Scardoni

Inception by Bianca Scardoni | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

I was tempted to choose this as my favorite because it’s kind of simple yet so gorgeous. I mean, I can’t help myself when there’s red on the cover, I think we’ve already established that, but the dress, the hair, the background, the colors, it’s all gorgeous.

Mortal Ties by Eileen Wilks

I don’t know if this is photo manipulation or computer illustration, but it’s amazing either way. I mean, just look at the lighting and shadows, the tree branches…

My Favorite:
The Ministry of Curiosities Series by C.J. Archer

The Last Necromancer by C.J. Archer | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Her Majesty's Necromancer by C.J. Archer | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries
Beyond the Grave by C.J. Archer | books, reading, book covers, cover love, cemeteries

I don’t know which of the three I even like best because they’re all so gorgeous with the corsets and skirts and lace and skulls and grave markers and green and glowy smoke… I mean, come on! Her lantern is a skull with glowing eyes! What’s not to love?!

Yeah you had an advantage this week. 🙂 These are all great – killer colage. I’m a little jealous I didn’t find some of those LOL. This is a tough one… I’m gonna say The Vampire Shrink might be my fave. I like the huge moon, her looking back, all the stuff in the background. Yeah that’s my favorite.

I really like Mortal Ties, and yeah that skull with glowing eyes- I wouldn’t have noticed that actually- that’s a trip. Plus green. Inception is good, I agree that’s a close pick for favorite as well. Deceived is nice… and I like Grave Dance and Grave Visions a lot too. And The Nightmare Affair- I like that style of cover too. I guess I like all these this week LOL.

I was so sure you were gonna choose the Ministry of Curiosity covers because of all the green! You’re throwing me off here, haha. The Vampire Shrink is a great one though because it does kind of have everything. Since it seems like you do pretty much like all of them lol, we’re in the same boat though. Some weeks I end up with covers I’m kind of meh about, but this was just a good week for me!

Interesting topic this week ^^ And I agree with your favorite, those covers a stunning !
I did miss one series though ! The Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens, I don’t know if you know that one, but you should check it out if you haven’t already !

  3. Anissa @ She Reads Too Much

You always find the prettiest covers! They all are so gorgeous :O
I haven’t read any of these but they look awesome. It’s been so long since I’ve read adult, but I hardly have any time and the YA releases this month have been insane! Great post, I love these! 😀

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks 🙂 I haven’t read most of them either, but most of them are on my TBR or already on my kindle. I feel like I don’t even pay much attention to whether something is YA or adult when I add books to my TBR or choose what to read (unless I’m specifically in the mood for something steamy or dark that I won’t get in YA), so I say don’t fret your lack of adult reading and just enjoy all your new YA releases!

    1. Kristen Burns

ME TOO. I already had them in my TBR, and I visited Amazon to get the pictures for my post, but I still don’t know what they’re abotu lol. I just know that I want those covers.

These covers are gorgeous! One of my favourite cemeteries cover is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and the original cover for a 2009 debut: Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink, I don’t remember much about the latter book, but the cover stuck with me because it’s quite haunting.

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks! Which Graveyard Book cover, the blue one, or the illustrated one? They’re both nice 🙂 And you’re right, Prophecy of the Sisters does have a haunting cover! I can see why it stuck with you.

I am not a fan of cemetry’s on covers, not sure why. Maybe because they are a bit dark and creepy? They can add a certain feel to a cover. I think the The Ministry of Curiosities Series covers are my favourite too, I like the green and black and her dress and the slight creepy feel.

    1. Kristen Burns

I like dark and creepy in books lol. Though, surprisingly, I’ve found that a lot of books involving cemeteries aren’t actually dark and creepy. For example, in Real Vampires Do It in the Dark, the MC spends the whole beginning living in a cemetery, and it’s mostly just funny. And in iZombie the MC lives in a cemetery with her ghost best friend lol. But they are kind of morbid when you think about it, so I get you. I’m glad you also like the same covers 🙂

  6. Daniela Ark

wow you finally got me lol I couldn’t remember one single book that had a cemetery in the cover! I DO DO DO DO want to read ALL the books you got here. What is wrong with me? 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

LET’S READ THEM ALL AND THEN DISCUSS THEM TOGETHER. Because I want to read them all too. Except I can’t afford them all right now, so you’re gonna have to wait until I’m rich 😛

  7. Bookworm Brandee

There are only a couple of titles on your list that I don’t recognize, Kristen. And they’re all lovely. I think my favorite is Inception and it’s a title I’d not heard of but will be adding to my wish list. 😉 I think one of my favorite series that include covers featuring a cemetery is Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series.

    1. Kristen Burns

I’m jealous because I haven’t read most of them, but I want to lol. I think I looked at the Night Huntress series but didn’t really love the covers as much as the others I found. I do want to read that series though!
