Cover Characteristics: Book Covers featuring Clocks

Clocks turned out to be a pretty good topic for book covers! There’s something kinda pretty about clocks too.

Actually, speaking of clocks, I happen to have this really awesome one that I love (the picture is an Amazon affiliate link in case anyone else also wants to own the same awesome clock):

Other than that though, I don’t have much to say about clocks, so let’s get on with the covers!

Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. I missed the week when this was the official topic, so I’m a bit late, but this week my topic is:

This one looks kind of post-apoc-ish and very in-your-face, but it’s attention-grabbing, and I like it!

The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher

I’m not really sure why I love this one, but I do. Maybe the color contrast? The interesting composition? The fantasy feel?

Collide by Michelle Madow

This one is so bright and glowy!

The Lying Planet by Carol Riggs

This one looks interesting with the desolate-looking picture but the bright pink coloring.

The Rewind Agency Series by Jill Cooper

Plugged by Jill Cooper
Detached by Jill Cooper

These are so interesting, and I like the color combo!

The Interminables by Paige Orwin

The teal is pretty, and I love the whole thing, especially the little people on the clock face!

I like the simple but good grungy, possibly steampunk or sci-fi look.

I do like my illustrated covers, don’t I? I just find this one so pretty and interesting, and the covers for this series (the first isn’t pictures since it didn’t have a clock) kind of make me want to read the books!

I’m going with the Watchmaker’s Daughter as my fave- I like the purple and the sense that it’s coming from the opened watch. Magics you know. 🙂

I like the 2nd Gabrielle one- cool dress. The Machine does have that cool steampunk or gearpunk thing going… and the Rewind Agency covers have that same vibe too a little bit.

    Love the whatever clock. 🙂

That is a good one, and sometimes purple can be such a gorgeous, eye-catching color.

I don’t really read steampunk, but it does sometimes have really great covers.

      I love that clock, haha.

Who knew covers with clocks could be so petty! I can’t think of many covers I own with clocks on them, but I do remember seeing some pretty ones and recognize a few of these. All of these look great!

I really like the covers for the Rewind Agency and the one for The Lying Planet looks great too, I like the purple hue of that cover. The one for Collide I’ve seen before, it’s a good one!

I like how the focus goes to the watch on the cover for the Watchmaker’s Daughter cover.

Oohhh I LOVE clocks! Don’t ask me why. It doesn’t really make much sense because I am constantly trying to escape the mortal clutches of time, but I love clocks?? Like, a lot? Ugh, I’m a walking contradiction 😉
I must say, I am partial to the clock feature in the Titanic because how can I not be. BUT, I will say that my favorite clock based upon these covers is the one on The Watchmaker’s Daughter. Like, it’s glowing. It says to me, “I probably have mystical powers that may let you escape time and also I’m purple.” This is convincing to me. 10/10 would clock again. Yes, mhm 🙂

No, I totally get it. Clocks are interesting and pretty, and I almost did a report on them once lol. The watchmaker’s daughter is definitely a pretty one, and lol you crack me up.

What a cool choice of cover this is! And you’re right, the little people on the Interminables are awesome — I didn’t realise they were there until you pointed them out to me,

I think The Watchmaker’s Daughter is definitely my favourite, but I really like Collide as well. I just love that glowing effect they both have, and the pops of colour in both really work! 🙂
