At least dragons are pretty :-)
Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. This week’s topic is:
Books Covers featuring Dragons
Core by Teshelle Combs
It doesn’t have any actual dragons on it, only dragon scales, but I love how it’s simplistic yet still striking and enticing. This is the only one on the list I’ve read so far, but I really liked it!
The Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik
I love the simplicity of the dragons on the plain backgrounds. And those dragons look fierce!
Dragon Friend by Marc Secchia
Awesome graphics.
The Dragonian Series by Adrienne Woods
I love the style of cover art on the first book, but I also love the little dragon baby on Book 2! HOW ADORABLE!
Southwind Knights by B.E. Priest
I like this one because it shows that a cover can be simple and different but still good.
Stalked by Flames by Susan Illene
That is one scary dragon and one tough chick.
The Dragonvein Series by Brian D. Anderson
The first cover is all mysterious and awesome, but, look! It’s another little baby dragon on Book 2!
The Lost Dragon by Andrew P. Mayer
Love the glowing, pink, smoke-like, Asian dragon. *P.S. The first ebook in the series might still be free!*
The Dragons of Eternity Series by Julie Wetzel
Awesome graphics plus nice use of font.
My Favorite:
Unleash the Storm by Annette Marie
I may be a little biased with my favorite since I love the whole series it’s part of, but it’s definitely a badass cover.
Unleash the Storm is nice, I like how the dragon in the background is perching on a building. Great cover! And I like Dragonvein too. That one looks kinda mysterious.
The Core is a nice one too, it’s understated with just the scales and you only catch a glimpse, makes me wonder what it’s about! I need to read more contemporary fantasy w/ dragons…
Dragonvein is probably my second favorite, after Unleash the Storm, since I also like that mysterious vibe. I’m actually about 50% through Core right now. I was pretty much expecting dragon shifters and underground fight clubs, but it turns out that’s not exactly what it is lol. Still really enjoying it though.
These are all so pretty and I’ve hardly heard of any of them! I’ve read Novik’s of course, but the rest I think are all new unless I’m just not recognizing covers. I of course quite approve of this topic 😉 Thanks for all the pretty books to add to the TBR!
Haha, if anyone would like this topic, I imagine it would be someone with the word “dragon” in their blog name 😛 I’ve started reading Core today, and I like it, but so far they’ve all been in human form, so nothing super dragon-y yet. “On the Accidental Wings of Dragons” is still free in ebook form though if you wanna grab it! Glad you like my choices!
I love covers with dragons on it although I haven’t read too many books myself with dragons or dragons on the cover. I recently got a dragon shapeshifter book for review, which sounds really good. Dragons always look so mighty and powerfull and it’s fun to see how they are displayed on a cover.
All those covers you listed ehre are really awesome. I like the simplistic style of Core, but I think Unleash the Storm is my favourite of these. The dragon looks mighty and powerfull and the girl looks badass with how she seems to be walking towards it. On the Firebolt cover I like how female and dragon seem to be fighting side by side. I love talking about covers, so I really like this post!
Ooh what dragon shifter book are you reviewing? I’ve never actually read a book about pure dragons, only shifters, since I imagine the pure ones would be more in high/epic fantasy, which I don’t really read. Just for the record though, the girl on Unleash the Storm IS badass 😛
Thanks, book covers are the best!
I thought about adding Talon by Julie Kagawa because it is about dragons, but it only has the dragon scales on the cover. Love all of your covers, although I haven’t seen most of them before.
Check out my covers.
Thanks! I found a lot of them just by looking around Amazon—so many pretty dragons to choose from!

I don’t know which one is my favorite. Maybe Dragon Friend!
Sorry that this weeks post is was little late.
Thanks for joining in last week 🙂
Sugar & Snark
No worries! And dragons was a super fun topic 🙂
I love dragon books! I haven’t heard of most of these, added a few to my “maybe” tbr 😀 I have read the Naomi Novik books and I love those! A different take on dragons – definitely a must read for ppl who like fantasy and historical fiction cross overs.
Yay, glad I could help someone find more book possibilities! I always end up adding more to my TBR when I do these cover memes. Historical isn’t usually my thing, but I’ll have to give those books another look since you’re the second person to have mentioned reading them.
Of all of these, the only one I’ve heard of is His Majesty’s Dragon. And that’s because it’s on my TBR pile somewhere… *laughs* So many books to look up and add to my reading lists! Thanks for all the dragon books!
I think my favorite dragon covers are Dragons of Autumn Twilight and Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The old cover versions from when I was a teenager, not the new ones. I also like most of the Dragonriders of Pern book covers, especially the ones with Menolly and her Firelizards. Again, the older versions not the new ones. (And don’t you just hate it when you love a book cover as is, and then it gets changed again and again so there’s like 6 different versions?? *lol*)
Glad you found some new books to look up 🙂
That is the worst when you like a cover and then it changes! It’s even worse on with Amazon ebooks because the cover just automatically changes and you don’t even have a choice to keep the old one. And you’re right, those covers you mentioned are great—they’ve got some awesome-looking dragons!
