Maybe it has something to do with growing up (and still living in) a big city. Ok, ok, I live in the suburbs of said city, but, when I write my address, it's still the city I write, so close enough.
Maybe it has to do with my love of the night---the way lights glow and twinkle on skylines in contrast to the darkness of the night is almost surreal.
But regardless of why, I think skylines are beautiful.
And I found SO MANY amazing covers for this topic. Narrowing this down to ten was torture for me, but *UGH* I managed somehow. I couldn't possibly be expected to pick a favorite though, so... I just chose lots :-P
Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. This week’s topic is:
Books Covers featuring Skylines
Banded Series by Logan Byrne
I just think they’re pretty, don’t really have a reason why.
Vampire Nation by H.T. Night
I just love the glowing lights of this skyline.
Dark Horizons by Krystle Jones
I know this is just a girl pasted in front of a background, but I’ve always loved this cover because the coloring is beautiful, her dress is beautiful (I WANT IT), and that skyline is beautiful.
Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan
This is another gorgeous skyline with the reflection in the water and everything.
Beyond the Veil by Pippa DaCosta
I just like this whole thing, art style, skyline background, all of it.
My Favorite #1:
Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant
The art of this is just gorgeous.
My Favorite #2:
Ritual Magic by Eileen Wilks
This is another one in which I just like all of it, art style, character with glowy magic in the foreground, skyline background (it’s hard to see in the small sized image, but it’s there), etc.
My Favorite #3:
Firebird Series by Claudia Gray
The colors, the style, the use of space, SO GORGEOUS.
My Favorite #4:
Incarnation by Emma Cornwall
Yet another one with just everything perfect, and I love the splash of red against the blue-gray background.
My Favorite #5:
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
It’s so unique and intriguing and pretty, a whole city skyline in a bottle.
They are all gorgeous! I would contribute with Mortal Instruments 🙂
Oh you’re right, those are pretty! Once I looked them up I recognized them because I had seen them before, but I didn’t think of them when I was putting this together.
This is a great topic this week. I love a skyline at night…
Vampire Nation is nice. I like Dark Horizons a LOT – the lights reflected in the water and I always like lighted bridges. Tell The Wind and Fire for the same reason. Ritual Magic is nice and I like Incarnation also- it’s got something. Says read me 😛
Ten Thousand Skies Above You might be my favorite actually, I like the Paris landmakrs in that one. As soon as I saw it I thought yeah. 🙂
These collages are kinda fun. At some point we should all do a Best Of Cover Characteristics pulling together the best of the best. That might be tough tho. 🙂
Skylines at night are the best. I feel like I could make the Dark Horizons cover myself, but it’s just so damn pretty that I can’t help but love it. And Incarnation is definitely calling out to me to read it lol. It really is on my TBR, probably like 90% because of the cover.
Ten Thousand Skies and the other book in the series are so gorgeous! I feel they might my favorite too? But I don’t know. Too hard to decide.
Please don’t make me do a best of the best. I think my head would explode from the indecision, haha.
Wow Passenger is a beautiful cover. Being inside the bottle and yet the bottom reflecting a traditional ship in a bottle.. it’s so interesting that I want to read it just based on the cover. You have some really great choices here!
My Skyline Covers
Yes! Passenger is one of those books that I’m not even interested in the story but I’m so tempted to read it anyway just for the cover lol. Believe it or not, I didn’t even see the reflection! That makes it even better 😛 Thanks!
Even though I have almway lived in a relatively big city, I am not really a city girl. I much prefer nature or small town settings in books or when i go on vacation. Then again there is something about skylines that I do love. And there’s something I like about cities too. And I can imagine narrowing it down to ten was difficult for this one as there are lots of books with skylines. The calendar girl series I am reading lately has skylines on each cover and a book I read recently The Halfling had one too and those are only books I read recently. Skylines seem to be quite popular on cover, not that I mind as they make for a great addition to a cover usually.
The Firebird series by Cluadia Gray has such stunning covers ad I like how there are two skylines on them and how different they are. And I love the cover for Passenger, I am still convinced I will read it eventually just because of the pretty cover. It doesn’t really sounds like a book for me, but I still want to read it. Great posts again! I love watching at all the pretty covers you always collect for these posts!
Ahh, see, I have always been a city girl. I am generally not a nature person, and even when I went off to college, I chose a big college in another big city.
I just looked up the Calendar Girl books, and I feel like the skylines ones are different than the covers I’ve seen? Are they new? I like them! But seriously, you never realize how many book covers have a certain thing on them until you start looking and trying to narrow it down lol.
I’m so with you about Passenger and the Firebird Series. I’m not even interested in the stories, but I’m so tempted to read them just because I want those covers. Thanks!
Passenger and A Thousand Pieces of You though –> ?? Thanks for sharing this and, as always, fabulous collection of covers! xx
I so agree! I think those might actually be favorites of them all, but I just couldn’t bring myself to decide. Thanks!
I do love Tell the Wind and Fire, and Passenger is great too! You’ve got some great picks this week!
You can check out mine in the link below!
Thanks! Those are both great ones, especially Passenger!
These are all lovely covers, Kristen. I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite. And, of course, you’re making me add more books to my tbr. Can you hear it groaning?!? 😉
Thanks! But sorry, can’t hear it over my own TBR, haha. I see you understand why I couldn’t pick a favorite either though 😛

Love the cover of Tell the wind and fire! It is amazing how many new covers I have seen this week with skylines! Thanks for joining in last week 🙂
Sugar & Snark
I didn’t know there were so many books with skyline either! It was fun seeing everyone’s posts 🙂
