This author has perfect timing because it seems like every time I’ve been in a reading slump, a book in this series would come out, and it would always be just what I needed to capture and keep my attention. This was another great book in a great series, and it wrapped up everything that had been building up throughout all nine books nicely.
Emerson was believable and likeable. Dash was a sweetheart. The romance blossoming between them was cute (though it was only a very tiny part of the story). The plot flowed well. And much like the other books, this one had some emotional scenes (my favorite was the scene between Emerson and Chase), some action-packed scenes, some touching scenes, and a strong sense of family threaded throughout.
To be honest, this wasn’t my favorite in the series, but I didn’t have any major issues. I just felt like this one was a little less intense overall, like a couple things happened a little too easily, and like I never quite connected to Emerson and Dash as much as I connected to Violet, Ryn, Calla, and Chase. But those are mostly personal preferences, and this was still just as well-written as the rest of the books.
Another thing I liked was that Calla had a big part in this book. I like the person she’s become, how she’s grown since her own story, and I liked the relationship between her and Emerson. It can be weird sometimes when a character you got to know in previous books as a protagonist is now a side character, but Rachel Morgan did that really well—with all her characters who were previously POV/main characters. And it was great how they all still stayed in the story, so we did get to see them grow more, even though the focus wasn’t on them.
Another thing I especially liked about the series as a whole was how the author took risks, the kinds of things you don’t see often, at least not in YA books, like an age-gap romance (in Calla’s story) and characters who did bad things but grew and still ended up being likeable in the end. But these risks worked! Or at least they did for me. There were also lots of twists—another thing that can go very wrong—but those worked too!
So overall, this was a gripping series with some great characters, a bit of humor, a lot of magic, some touching moments and relationships, an interesting over-arching plot, and kick-butt faeries!

Fans of Books 1-8 in Rachel Morgan's Creepy Hollow series. Anyone who likes action-packed YA urban fantasy with faeries, lovable, kickass characters, and just enough emotion to make you feel invested!

Ooh the Creepy Hollow series continues huh? Nice. A POV becoming a supporting character can be tricky- I know sometimes I’m like nooooo bring them, back as the main portagonist lol- but if done well… and nice to take risks too in the last of a nine book series? Glad this was good!
Yep! Although it doesn’t continue anymore since this was the last one lol. Yeah, each three books had a different MC, but the author did a good job of still making them feel the same regardless of POV. Thanks, I enjoyed this whole series!
I always have to do a double take when I see this author’s books because Rachel Morgan is the name of MC from The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison. lol. I’m definitely curious about this series though, I’m always down for some good UF.
Maybe this author is the character come to life and writing her own books now o.0 Lol. I really enjoyed this series!

It’s a great series! Lots of faeries and cool magic stuff 😀 And most of the books are pretty fast-paced, so great for slumps!
It’s brilliant that every time you need a pick-me-up book a new one in the series is released! And yes, sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it’s not a new favourite in a seires., It doesn’t mean it is necessarily still not a great book! I’m glad you could enjoy it, all the plot points and the new character shift.
I do enjoy books where the series stays the same and the main character changes. I see that in romance series a lot which is good because we get to experience a new character arc and a new perspective on matters. I see it done less with fantasy and supernatural books but I don’t mind it at all!

I actually prefer the same character throughout, but these books switched characters every three books, so that made it better for me since I had more time to get to know each one. But you’re right, it does happen more in romance books.
it sounds like Rachel is like Dannika Dark for me LOL it’s becoming a tradition for me to start the year with a PR book even though I don;t read much of that genre the rest of the year it seems to help me get started. 🙂 Sounds like the characters and romance is good. Even though it wasn’t as exciting as the others it still got 4 stars huh? !
It’s great to have a series that you know will always be good reading and get you out of a slump or start your year off right! But yeah, even though it wasn’t as great as some of the other books in the series for me, it was still well-written and a great read!
That does sound like great timing a new book in a series you follow is being released when you are in a reading slump. I have the first book in this series, maybe I can finally get around to reading it this year. It does sound like an awesome series. I like how you mention the different type of scenes this book has, it’s nice to see a blend of those different aspects in a book.
Too bad it was a little bit less intense and a few things happened to easy. I always feel like that’s a hard balance to strike, if it’s too easy it’s not interesting, but if things are too hard it can be off putting too.
I like that about series that have different main characters that you see what happened to the earlier main characters or get to know the future main characters a bit already. Sounds like the author handled that well in this series. Nice that the risks the author took paid off and it had some things you don’t see often. Great review!
Yeah it happened multiple times with this series lol. It’s a great series and really well-balanced with the different scenes and emotions and whatnot.
Idk, I kind of don’t mind when really bad and hard for the characters, keeps me gripped, as long there’s a reprieve at some point in the series. But I can see how it can be a hard balance to strike.

I really loved all the characters and the epilogue .You know, the part between Dash and Em … And like you , Ryn is my fav male character all round . I can never decide if I like Em’s or Vi’s story more.. Can you help me. ;P

Yeah I think you might be right. The Faerie prince is my fav book as is Ryn. =D Though, now I read Calla’s story and came to check your review ’cause i think now Cal’s story is the best. But yes, as characters I too think Ryn and Vi are the best. :3
