Hazel and Kiara have been taken to a detainment center where Hazel is now in kindergarten, but Alana and Marko are still trying their hardest to find her and get her back. Meanwhile, reporters Upsher and Doff have decided to go after the story about Hazel once again only to run into The Will who is on a revenge mission of his own.

Review:

I’m disappointed to say this volume just wasn’t as good for me as the others. It wasn’t nearly as funny, and I just didn’t feel as invested or interested in the characters since there didn’t seem to be much new depth added to them. I think the problem was even though this is Hazel’s story, she’s not my favorite character, and this volume did focus a lot more on her than the others. I do have a few thoughts though.

1) IV has now transitioned into the #1 spot for my favorite character in the series. I’ve said it before, but this time even more than the others he was shown to be really not a bad guy. But he’s was still just as hilariously insulting.

2) What the hell happened to The Will?! He really went downhill, especially considering he used to be my favorite character.

3) I did enjoy getting to see a little more of Upsher and Doff’s relationship (the reporters) since they haven’t had much screen time. Upsher is kind of a jerk, but Doff seems to have his priorities straight, and it’s sweet seeing the way they work together as a couple.

4) I’m totally shipping Hazel and IV’s son.

Anyway, the artwork was still beautiful and I’m definitely not giving up on the series, but this volume just fell a little flat for me.

I like this cover a lot, it looks brighter and more science fiction-y than some of the other Saga covers. I keep seeing them at Barnes & Noble and remembering I want to read these lol. Sorry to hear this one didn’t quite live up- at least the art is still good, which is an achievement since most comics can’t retain their artist for long these days.

You’re right, it is more science fiction-y than the others, but the stories are about all the same. You should give them a try though! It’s a really good story. I mean, obviously I didn’t think this volume was quite as good, but it’s still good overall. And yeah, I think everyone would be in an uproar if they ever changed the artist for this because it seems to be a unanimous agreement that the art is gorgeous (seriously I haven’t seen a single person say they didn’t love the art).

Yes, I also was disappointed reading this volume. IV has been amazing over the last volumes. I hope to see more of upsher and doft in the upcoming volumes

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. It seems like every other review I’ve seen people are giving it 5 stars. And I’m also glad I’m not the only one who likes IV! I wouldn’t mind more Upsher and Doff either, I liked getting to see more depth to them and their relationship.

I’m sorry this one fell flat, Kristen. I’m still eager to continue the series – maybe…hopefully this was just a one-off? I am looking forward to getting better acquainted with all these characters though!

Oh yeah, you should definitely keep reading. And I did like learning more about Upsher and Doff. I guess every book in a series can’t be amazing, right? It might just be a one time thing 🙂

Sorry this volume was a bit disappointing and not as good as the previous ones. That’s too bad The Will went downhill so fast and this one focused on a character you didn’t like as much. It does sound nice you get to see a bit more of the reporters. I hope the next one is better again!

Yeah, it’s disappointing to see your favorite character just completely go downhill like that. But at least IV was there to take his place as my favorite lol. And it was nice seeing more depth in the side characters. Thanks!
