Book Review: Tentacles & Triathlons (Leviathan Fitness Book 2) by Ashley Bennett

Reece had a scary experience with a monster as a kid and still fears them despite their integration into society. But when a kraken who's friends with his brother-in-law offers to help him train swimming for his upcoming triathlon, Reece takes him up on the offer and finds himself growing more and more attracted as he gets to know him.

Review:

This romance was cute! I would’ve liked to see them spend more time together before they got to admitting their feelings and having sex, I think I personally would’ve enjoyed this even more that way. But there were still a lot of really cute moments that made me smile. When they were about to kiss for the first time, I was absolutely chanting in my head, “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” And, no spoilers, but if you’ve read the book already, my favorite scene was when they were trying to get Reece into his wetsuit in the changing stall. It was just so silly and couple-y, and they were laughing, and I was laughing.

The characters were all nice, good people. Reece was prejudiced against monsters at first, but he changed pretty quickly when he realized he had been a jerk.

And it was so fun having a character who was a kraken! He wasn’t kraken-sized and did have some humanoid qualities, but he wasn’t a shifter, he always had tentacles and looked pretty sea creature-like. (Like he looks on the cover.)

This is not really a negative about the book, but I just gotta say, Reece was training for and then doing a triathlon, and honestly, the whole thing just sounded miserable? I don’t think I’m projecting, I used to be athletic, I understand enjoying physical activity and pushing yourself. It’s just, it didn’t sound like Reece had any fun at all. I guess he was proud of himself when he was done? But I don’t know, I didn’t even get that vibe. Ok, maybe this is sort of a complaint, because the author didn’t make me understand why the character was doing this, why it meant anything to him, if it made him feel good in any way, etc. But that’s not a big deal.

Anyway, overall, this was a really sweet romance about sweet characters!

*Each book in this series focuses on a different couple, but I did not read the first book, and I had no trouble understanding everything. Maybe there were things I missed and didn’t even realize, but I think they can be read out of order.*

Haha, Tentacles and Triathlons is such a fun title. Leviathan Fitness also ????.

I have trouble picturing them together though…I mean…OK, let’s keep it PG-13 ????. You said the kraken is humanoid though, so…

Is he an artist as well? He’s holding brushes on the cover.
