I’ve reviewed a few visual novel/dating sim type games so far, and I’ve talked about The Sims here and there, but I’ve finally added an actual gaming category!
If you’re only here for the books, don’t worry, I’m still going to post mostly about books and reading. I would just also like to try posting a little bit more about games now that I’m interested in trying more of them.
That’s why I wanted to make a little announcement, to make sure no one gets confused and to talk about what sorts of things I’m planning to post, especially since these are the types of games I think my fellow readers might enjoy!
What Type of Games Will I Post About?
The types of games I’m planning to talk about are visual novels, dating sims, and other similar story/character/choice-based interactive games. I also enjoy The Sims franchise and may have the occasional post about those games.
What I’m NOT planning on talking about are fighting, shooting, action-packed, stressful, time-pressured types of games. I get very easily stressed out by games that require me to hit the right buttons at the right time, in the right direction, etc., so I don’t play those. I will probably also not be talking about tycoon or other similar simulation games.
Aside from The Sims, I plan to focus on sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal games, the same as I do with books.
I’ll only be talking about PC games and maybe the occasional app since I don’t own any video game consoles.
How Often Will I Post?
I’m planning to do posts about upcoming releases every two months. I’ll do reviews whenever I find something good. I also have a few Sims-related posts planned. So this will depend on how many games I’m able to find (and afford). Probably one or two posts a month for now.
That’s It!
If you follow me but you’re not at all into games, that’s fine! Don’t feel obligated to read any posts you’re not interested in!
If you happen to have stumbled upon this post and are ONLY interested in games, you should be able to follow that category exclusively by inputting https://metaphorsandmoonlight.com/gaming/ into your feed reader.
And if you’re into both or have never tried a visual novel or dating sim type game but are curious, then great! I look forward to hearing your thoughts about books and games 🙂
If you want to see what games I’ve talked about so far, you can find those here!
Nice! I like it when bloggers talk games, it just adds something. And with visual novels/ sim type stuff- why not? I love interactive games, and vastly prefer PC games too so yay! lol
I feel like games and books go together well! Especially when they’re visual novel type games. Hopefully some people will be interested!
Yay! I don’t have enough book/game bloggers in my feed. Have you tried jurassic park world? The dinosaurs of sims, I love it.
I haven’t, but it looks pretty cool!
My boyfriend is a gamer. I didn’t play as a child and that’s my excuse why I’m so bad at games. I use to love The Sims and I do like Life is Strange though the end was too hard for me to complete 🤣 I don’t play games really but I’m not going anywhere
Oh, I don’t play games you actually have to be good at lol. Those stress me out! That’s why I like The Sims, since you just control your sims’ lives, and visual novels, since you just choose between a few options every so often, haha. And no worries! I’m happy to have you around for the bookish posts 🙂
Very fun! I love when book bloggers talk about other things they’re interested in.
Thanks! I also like it because it’s nice seeing people enthusiastic and excited about things they like 🙂
I think it’s awesome you are adding some more of the things you enjoy to your blog. I “retired” from my gaming ways years ago, because of my wrists and thumbs, but good for you.
Thanks! That’s what I figure—it’s my blog and I do it as a hobby, so I might as well blog about the things I enjoy 🙂 Although my tennis elbow is definitely going to a hindrance on how many games I can play.
And now I have to recommedn your blog to my son! He is the gamer not me LOL
Lol I’m not sure I’ll be quite at the level of a gaming blog! Kind of a book blog with a bit of games on the side 😛
That’s fun you’re adding a game category to your blog. I like gaming, so I am curious to see your blog posts about games. I actually participated in a game meme a few years ago on my blog, but people didn’t really seemed interested in the posts and they took quite some effort to write so I eventually stopped doing them.
I actually don’t play as much visual novel type of games, but I do enjoy them. I guess as I already read a lot I usually go for different types of games. I actually like quite a variety of games, just like with books I try out different genres. Lately I’ve been doing a few puzzle type of games that I enjoy and an awesome object finding game. I also like simulation type of games (I have a cooking game that I like, but I also like city builders and such) and tower defense games (one of my favorite game genres, but there aren’t as many games in that genre). And sometimes strategy, shooters, exploring or rpg games. It depends a bit on my mood and the exact game.
I see you mention games sometimes! And didn’t you say you were going to try some game posts or you did post some or something? I’m kind of considering this a trial period since, if there’s really no interest, I might end up stopping.
I guess I’m the opposite. I like visual novels because they are kinda like books. But I can understand why you’d prefer games that are different! I like puzzle games and certain types of simulation games too! I’m just trying to focus on SFF games so that it fits my blog. I guess you’re a mood gamer as well as a mood reader 😛
I miss The Sims so much. I played that game constantly when I was a teenager. Sims and reading were my escapes. My ancient laptop can’t handle games. If I suddenly got rich, one of the first things I’d buy is a gaming computer and The Sims.
I managed to install Sims 3 (which is the most specs-intense one) once in an old, half-broken laptop, so you never know. Sims 4 runs a lot smoother and faster, so that one might work for you? But man, having an actual gaming computer would be great!
50+ filthy casual gamer here! So glad you’re doing this.
I know a few authors are gamers. Like Annie Bellet and Jim Butcher. I remember when I found Jim Butcher on Steam (not stalking!). For some weird reason he seemed “real” when I saw him in a gaming community.
Can’t wait to see your posts.

Nice! I’m glad to know some of my fellow readers are also gamers.
Lol, that would be interesting to find a famous author in a totally different arena like that.
Thanks!
Yay for gaming posts! I am a big fan of games I am currently playing Stardew Valley, it’s low stress and I love trying to keep my farm earning me money. I think it’s great that you’re branching out into other things, sometimes you want to talk about other things which are holding your interest so I can’t wait to see what you have to say about the games you’ve been playing lately.
Awesome! At least I know one person will be interested in some of my game posts lol. I’ve never played Stardew Valley, but yeah, I love those low stress kinda games.
Absolutely blog about the things you love 🙂
I hadn’t even realised that there is a kind of gaming novel until you mentioned it. I doubt any will play on my tablet, but I’m interested to discover new ways of reading.
That’s how I feel, I should be able to enjoy blogging and blog about what I like!
Yeah! They’re basically like choose-your-own-adventure books, but more technologically advanced lol. Idk if they can be played on tablets though.
Yay! I’m not a gamer at all, anymore, which is a shame because when I was younger I was all about wii, DS, and PC games. I even had a gamecube for the period of time when that was cool. And the gameboy before the DS. But I lost my love of gaming somewhere as blogging and books took over more than anything else :/ But I do love reading your Sims updates and I will basically read anything you write so give me all the gamer posts 😀
I never got into console games really, aside from a couple on NES and some really old handheld thing lol, but I’ve always loved The Sims and used to play lots of tycoon and simulation type computer games when I was younger. Awww thanks, I love knowing I have your support!
Sounds fun! I always love your SIMS posts! 🙂
Thanks!
Good luck with your new category! I’m not into games, but I hope you enjoy writing about them, and your posts do well!
No worries, I know they won’t be for everyone! Thank you, I’m looking forward to seeing how they do!
