Update: Life and Books (Apr 2023)

Let’s see. What did I do in April…

I played more games because they’re a great distraction from real life. Which means I also got a lot of headaches, but eh, that’s not fun to talk about. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Sun Haven! It’s the first cutesy farming/crafting sim I’ve played, and it’s full of fantasy stuff, and my character is a naga with four boyfriends 🙂 I want to stop for a bit to wait for more updates and mods, but also I’m having so much fun that I don’t want to stop.

I also stumbled upon this when I was looking into Stardew Valley:

I also played Chronicles of Tal’Dun: The Remainder, which was a sort of dark visual novel about mages in a tower with a ritual gone wrong. Took me a bit to warm up to, but I really liked it once I got further into it. The characters were fascinating.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

I’m sorry that I’ve sucked at commenting lately, both on other blogs and my own. I’m struggling with chronic illness and pandemic and lots of things right now, which means I’ll probably continue to suck at commenting. So visit my posts if you’re interested, leave a like or a comment if you feel like it, I do still read them! Or don’t, if you don’t feel like it. I know others might be struggling too.

Books I Received for Review:

Platinum Blood by Mor Ichigaya, from Tokyopop. (Vampire manga!) Three Meant to Be by MN Bennet, from BookSirens. (Magic + second chance romance!) I also got two audiobooks from NetGalley, which made me happy. (Esp since I got approved for both on my birthday, and it was only the day after I requested them.) Witch King by Martha Wells (high fantasy demon!), and The Alchemy of Moonlight by David Ferraro (a castle and werewolves, I think!).

Books I Finished:

The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole NovoaSaint Juniper's Folly by Alex CrespoWitch King by Martha Wells

I haven’t been reading/listening to as many books as usual lately. I also haven’t had great luck with books lately. I’ve enjoyed some, but there have been a lot of meh ones. Don’t let that stop you if you want to read any of these though! Anyway, I pretty much only review books on my blog nowadays if I really like them or have some reason that compels me to review them, and I’m going to run out of reviews at this rate.

Just for the record, the covers I use in these posts aren’t indications of my feelings, it’s just whichever covers I already have uploaded or will need for another post at some point.

If you’re considering buying one of the books below from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa – I enjoyed the YA trans rep and the magic, but I never got super into the book.

Saint Juniper’s Folly by Alex Crespo – A YA story with cute romance and friendship and character growth.

Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A. Rubin – A cute and very chill fantasy romance. Though I would’ve liked to see a little more of the time the characters spent together.

Gary of a Hundred Days by Isabel Murray – A quick, if not super memorable, fantasy romance. I do think it’s a fun idea to take what is normally a big thing stories focus on (a king dethroned and on the run) and just use it as a background thing.

Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxwell – The writing was good, the characters were three-dimensional, the story and world were well thought-out… but the book was so long, and I was bored. Idk. I’ll read more from this author though, I loved the first book.

Platinum Blood by Mor Ichigaya – This was a little too ridiculous for me. But if you just want some sexy gay vampire art, this graphic novel has got you covered.

Witch King by Martha Wells – This was pretty slow. Not quite interesting enough for me to really get into it, but interesting enough for me to keep listening.

    Eeeeeee! Happy belated birthday BTW!

You do comment a lot, all things considered. And I understand struggling, even if for completely different reasons. Sometimes I feel guilty if I let too much time pass in between a post and my comment, but some days you only want to empty your head and play silly games on your computer…

I must admit I just skim the “In case you missed” section, because if I did miss a post, it’s because of the above reason LOL – and I’ll never be able to catch up…

Thanks! (In case you’re worried you missed it on Twitter, I didn’t mention it there, wasn’t in the mood.)

I try to still leave comments on a few blogs. But lately every day I just want to empty my head and play silly games.

It’s just more work for me, esp if it’s not actually getting people to click. I don’t have any way of knowing if there are silent readers clicking, but eh.

A naga???? That’s freaking awesome. That Sun Haven looks so fun (and cool name).

Martha Wells is hit or miss for me. I love her Murderbot sutff and Emilie and the Hollow World, but her other stuff… I’ve had trouble with 🙂

    1. Kit (Metaphors and Moonlight)

Right? You never get to be a naga! So of course I chose that!

I feel like a lot of people have a hit or miss relationship with Martha Wells books, judging from review I read. A lot said they loved Murderbot but weren’t into Witch King.

Sorry to hear about the headaches. Finding something to take your mind off of real life is why I read so much. it’s nice to get lost in something for a little while.

I finally finished two nights ago King of Fools by Amanda Foody. I was debating on getting the next book of the series because she killed off one of my characters. I did decide to get it and I’m listening to it. It’s called Queen of Volts.
I also finished watching The Mayfair Witches. I’ve been watching Servant which is getting really good. I also finished watching Manifest and La Brea. I have been trying to catch up on Disney movies lately. I watched COCO and Soul.

Oh no, it sucks when one of your favorite characters gets killed off. I have that problem with an ongoing series, I’m just not enjoying it as much since one of my faves was killed.

I haven’t seen Soul yet, but I did get a chance to Coco when it was on TV or something. Disney movies are usually good, even if not spectacular.
