Update: Life and Books (Feb 2022)

I know February isn’t quite over, but I didn’t feel like trying to figure out another post for today, so we’re doing this one early.

And since the world is not doing great right now, and I’m not doing great right now, and a lot of people aren’t doing great right now, I’ve decided to focus this post on good, not-serious things.

I’m all caught up on Miraculous Ladybug! I really didn’t expect to get so into the show. I recommend it, and I’m around if anyone wants to chat about it!

I always enjoy Drawfee videos, but I actually had to pause the video below to get myself under control because I was laughing so hard I was crying and my stomach hurt. Their 30 second drawing challenges are always hilarious, but making it into a group photo brought it to another level.

I also finally tried The Sims Medieval, and it’s so fun! I had no idea what to expect, and I’m enjoying it immensely.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

So… I think I got the dark mode working? It should now use a cookie to save your preference, until you close the browser, then the cookie is deleted and it resets back to light mode. If it’s not working for you, it could be you need to clear cache, especially if you use Chrome. Hopefully this will help anyone whose eyes need the break! So many gorgeous covers! We’re barely two months into the year, and already I’ve got enough books for a 2022 top ten books covers post. A lot of books this month that weren’t bad or were even enjoyable, but they just didn’t leave a big impression on me. Only one that I really disliked though, and even that was just not to my taste. So if any of these interest you, I say give ’em a try!

The Temperature of Me and You by Brian Zepka – I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to request this book after some of the reviews I read, but I’m glad I trusted my desire to try it anyway because I liked it!

The Kindred by Alechia Dow – Nothing particularly wrong with this one, but I just wasn’t super into it. A nice friends-to-lovers kinda romance though, and some great diversity/inclusivity.

Three Left Turns to Nowhere by Jeffrey Ricker, J. Marshall Freeman, & ‘Nathan Burgoine – This was a sweet, calm, low-key anthology with three novellas about queer teens living their lives and finding some unexpectedly good things in a magical small town.

From the Shadows – I gotta be honest, this villain anthology was not for me. It took me months to get through. I ended up DNFing a bunch of the stories. I was bored and found most of the villains to be just cold and cruel and lacking in emotion and not interesting to me. I also found it hard to get into the epic fantasy world-building with whole religions and magic systems and societies within the span of a short story.

Reverie by Ryan La Sala – I saw the new gorgeous new cover for this one (for the paperback, I think) and suddenly I couldn’t resist trying it (though I opted for the audiobook from Hoopla). Didn’t leave a big impression on me, but it was enjoyable.

Turkish Delight by Tess Barnett – A light, low stress m/m vampire romance.

Octopi My Heart by Amanda Meuwissen – A short story about a human and an octopus merman selkie.

The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig – A good story, but I think I’m too old for it because I just couldn’t quite get past 70-something and some-hundreds-something vampires romancing a 16-year-old.

The Boy with a Bird in His Chest by Emme Lund – A somewhat bittersweet but hopeful queer coming of age story. I had some issues but enjoyed it.

Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman – A quiet story about a trans vampire archivist whose life starts suddenly changing. I don’t know that I got everything from it that the author intended, but I had more likes than dislikes.

In Case You Missed It:

– I reviewed Three Left Turns to Nowhere, a sweet anthology about queer teens in a magical town.
– I shared adorable quotes from adorable book couples for Valentine’s Day.
– I reviewed A Gentleman & A Walrus by Emmaline Strange, a super cute grumpy/sunshine m/m romance with a walrus shifter.
– I reviewed Catch & Release by Isabel Murray, a funny and sort of unique m/m romance with a merman.
– I shared some more tweets about my Sims 3 shenanigans.

Laughter is good, and so needed right now, so yeah.

The Sims Medieval sounds fun! I’m listening to medieval- ish tavern music right now so it seems appropriate. šŸ™‚

Dark mode worked for me… I kinda like it.

Three Left Turns sounds good to me.

Yeah, I gave up on TS4 after buying one game pack and one EP and realizing I just didn’t like the gameplay, and no amount of new items and worlds would fix that. The Sims Medieval is really fun! Much more goal-focused than normal Sims games, but I’m liking it.

I’m still reading The Silmarillion. I finished watching YOU today. It’s was good. There is a new season coming soon. I will be watching The Blacklist, A Million Little Things, This is Us, and Killing Eve next week. Last night I watched Tragedy of Macbeth. It was good.

I’m surprised you didn’t enjoy Reverie more. For some reason, I thought you would. I found it wild in the best way and loved the spectacularly queer antagonist šŸ˜‚.

I’ve avoided blogging all week because the world is not great right now so I appreciate a post that focuses on more fun things. I know you like the drawfee videos. You know it’s a good one when you need to pause it from laughing.
