Update: Life and Books (Feb 2023)

I’ve got some dance videos to share this week! These both have great dancing and are a lot of fun. The second is longer, but everyone looked like they were having so much fun that I just sat there happily watching the whole thing.

Anyway, moving on to other topics! I’ve been playing a lot of games because sometimes they’re the only thing I can focus on. So…

I played First Bite: Bad Blood, which is a little sequel to First Bite. They’re such fun visual novels with such sexy and ridiculous vampires!

I played Fit for a King. I married my throne, ordained a bear, and knighted my dog (also married and divorced the dog). It was a short game, but silly and fun.

I played Ace in Space, a visual novel about an ace nonbinary person living on another planet and dating robot aliens, though there are some sad endings because the character has cancer.

And I played Citizen Sleeper, which unfortunately didn’t hit the notes I wanted it to. I didn’t feel meaningful relationships with the characters. But there’s a lot of really neat and creative world-building and backstory for the station and the people.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

I won another Goodreads giveaway! An ebook of Pirate Tales by Mark Stattelman.

Books I Received for Review:

A Draught of Ash and Wine by Kristin Jacques, from NetGalley. Cutting Your Teeth by Caylan MacRae, from NetGalley. The Modern Mythos Anomaly by Juniper Lake Fitzgerald, from the author. Hymn of Memory by S. Jean, from the author (link on Twitter). Spell Bound by F.T. Lukens, from the publisher. Not a book, but I also received Bad Blood (sequel to First Bite), from the game devs.

Side note, I’ve been getting a lot of queer self-pub books to review lately, they sound great, I’ve already read some that were great, and that makes me happy! It’s weirdly difficult to find self-pub ARCs because ARC sites aren’t always in an author’s budget. But I love self-pub/indie and love supporting them.

Books I Finished:

The Immortal Navigator: The Siren's Call by M.D. YoungA Draught of Ash and Wine by Kristin JacquesCutting Your Teeth by Caylan MacraeHymn of Memory by S. JeanDon't Let Go by Harper Fox

If you’re considering buying one of the books below from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

Beyond the Trees by Christopher Renna – Queer YA portal fantasy with a really sweet brother relationship and basically no romance (which I mention because that’s a rare find).

Squeak by Vera Valentine – I knew this wouldn’t be my kinda story, but balloon animals shifters! I had to know.

Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White – Also not for me, but I was curious about it and liked the trans rep.

The Immortal Navigator: The Siren’s Call by M.D. Young – A mysterious, tense book about a space crew with a vampire on board.

Penumbra // Blood Pact // Soul Fire // Endless Knight // Ex Tenebris by Nazri Noor – I finished the Darkling Mage series. They’re such readable books, kept my attention so well, and I really liked these characters and their found family.

A Draught of Ash and Wine by Kristin Jacques – An enjoyable sequel with vampires and interesting supernaturals.

Cutting Your Teeth by Caylan MacRae – Vampires and lovable characters and overall a nice start to a series.

A Little Lie by Max Turner – A quick but adorable romance.

Hymn of Memory by S. Jean – Such a chill, sweet book with kind, gentle characters!

✨ Once Upon a Haunted Moor // Tinsel Fish // Don’t Let Go // Kitto // Guardians of the Haunted Moor by Harper Fox – I was waiting to see if the last few books in this series would get audiobooks, but it’s been years and I can’t find any info from the author, so I decided to just relisten to the first seven and then use TTS for the rest. I like some of these books more than others, but overall it’s a great series with an adorable relationship between supportive, loving characters, plus a bit of paranormal mystery.

In Case You Missed It:

Here are the highlights!

Books:
– I reviewed Project Nought by Chelsey Furedi, a fun YA sci-fi graphic novel.
– I reviewed Bone to be Wilde by Dani Lakely, an adorable, lightly magical m/m romance.
– I reviewed Crescentville Haunting by MN Bennet, a supernatural-filled YA urban fantasy.
– I shared romantic book covers.
– I talked about why I like redemption arcs and gave some recs.

Games:
– I reviewed I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, a complex, touching visual novel + rpg + deck builder.
– I reviewed First Bite: Bad Blood, a funny, sexy, queer vampire visual novel sequel.

The dance videos were fun! I also like the sound of the vampire aboard a spacecraft book. That sounds like a movie waiting to happen!

“I married my throne, ordained a bear, and knighted my dog (also married and divorced the dog).”
    ????

    “Vampires and lovable characters”
But…are the vampire lovable, or are the two things mutually exclusive? ????

I love dance videos. They always look like fun. When I was younger, my best friend and I took shag dance lessons, but we didn’t have partners so we had to quit. I would love to take them again with my boyfriend Chris. February was my birthday month. I turned 43 years old. I finished listening to The Omega Factor by Steve Berry. It was good. Right now I’m reading King of Fools by Amanda Foody. I finished watching Severance. It was a crazy show. I can’t wait for the next season. I’m still watching Only Murders in the Building (season 2) and I’m watching The Peripheral. It’s another crazy show. I’m almost through with Stranger Things. I finished watching Inside Man. Another crazy show.

They do look like so much fun. Bummer about the lessons. I’ve tried various dance classes when I was younger, and yeah, never really worked out for me either. That would be so fun if you could take them with your boyfriend. Happy late birthday! So many crazy shows lol.

I love dance videos and always finish them thinking how much I like to dance and how very bad I am at it. Sounds like a good time to me playing a lot of games. I’ve been playing a lot of Pokemon again and I am debating playing more of The Sims once they bring out the baby update but we’ll see.

Same! I always wanted to do dance but just was never very good. I feel like I could’ve been decent at swing dancing and always wanted to learn, but I just never got the chance. Glad you’ve been enjoying some games too 🙂
