Update: Life and Books (Mar 2021) + I Finally Made Some Art!

So it appears we’ve made it through March? I’ve been pushing myself too hard because I need the mental distraction, but that means a lot of headaches, and I banged my bad foot against something, and I temporarily hurt my arm (though it seems back to usual tennis elbow pain now), so not my best month.

But I made some art! Something I have not done for almost a year. And I really, really love it. It just brings me joy to look at it. My little pixie guy! I used to draw little winged fairies a lot when I was in elementary school, and I think little me would be proud of this.

Digital line drawing of a pixie hanging by one arm from a small branch. His other arm is down and holding a flower that's as tall as he is. His body is muscular and naked, but at a slight angle with legs bent up a bit, showing only some pubic hair. His hair is long and tucked behind his pointy ear, and he's smiling serenely looking at something in the distance. His wings have a longer/larger upper part and a small lower part and resemble dragonfly wings. White highlights show that he is lit from behind.

And because I think it’s fun (and maybe encouraging to other artists to see how rough my art starts and how much I have to rework every part of it), I might also start sharing my original sketch sometimes? So here’s how pixie guy started:

I’ve been listening to a lot of music lately. Has anyone else heard the song Dance Monkey? Apparently it’s super popular, but I’m way out of touch with music and have only recently heard it. I didn’t love it at first, but it has grown on me.

I also finally put the art I bought in November into a frame!

I guess that’s enough for one post. Anyway, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but we’re not out of this pandemic yet. So I hope everyone else is doing well, staying safe, keeping others safe who have not yet been vaccinated, etc., etc.!

Blog/Bookish Updates:

Nothing.

Books I Received for Review:

None.

Books I Finished:

The Voyages of Trueblood Cay by Suanne LaqueurVendetta by Gail Z. MartinAbsolution by Lissa Kasey

If you’re considering buying one of the books below, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

This month was kind of a mixed bag.

The Voyages of Trueblood Cay by Suanne Laqueur – A heavy but beautiful book. My review is here.

Vendetta // Tangled Web // Trifles & Folly by Gail Z. Martin – I’m enjoying this UF series! Tangled Web and T & F were review copies, and thanks again to whoever anonymously gifted Vendetta to me!

Immortal Divorce Court #1 by Kirk Zurosky – The whole book was too misogynistic for my taste with nothing to really grab my interest. Was lighthearted though and made me laugh a few times.

Captive Mate by Eliot Grayson – Another enjoyable paranormal romance book in this series, about different characters.

A bunch of short story freebies from Maz Maddox’s website – Just a bunch of short story SFF m/m romances. I enjoyed most of them! Especially the ones about side characters from her PNR western series.

Absolution by Lissa Kasey – I thought this would be kind of separate from the previous books in this series, but it turned out it wasn’t, and I really enjoyed seeing these characters again. Plus there was cool vampire stuff.

Kiss Kiss Fang Fang by Penelope Bloom – Sadly the humor in this one did not work for me. Bummer cuz I could’ve use some laughs!

In Case You Missed It:

– I reviewed some audio dramas.
– I shared the opening line of ten different books.
– I reviewed Red Embrace, a fairly short but fun visual novel about vampires that I really liked!
– I reviewed The Voyages of Trueblood Cay by Suanne Laqueur, a heavy but beautiful fantasy book.
– I talked about my magical and chaos-filled Sims 1 game.

I wish I could do art, but… sadly no. Glad you’re keeping on with it though! You’re pretty good!

That art is pretty awesome. šŸ™‚

I like the idea of a PNR or probably for me more of a urban fantasy type western, but what a cool mashup.

Your artwork is lovely! That must have been really nice to get back into that since you love it so much. I had an okay March – some various mental and physical health issues, but I’m doing a bit better at the moment. Hopefully things will keep looking up!

Ohhh that pixie guy is so cute!! Sadly, art is one thing I donā€™t have the patience for.. šŸ˜¬ everything gotta look good right NOW or I get mad; which, grated i know it doesnā€™t work that way, it need practice & time and etc. But.. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

I absolutely love how you placed that frame & the leaves.

    Stay safe xx

Thank you!!! Yeah even I *should* practice more, then maybe my drawings wouldn’t start bad and have to be fixed piece by piece lol.

Thank you, the leaves in front are covering a crack in the frame šŸ˜‚

      You too <3

Thank you!! I can’t remember if I said this in the post and don’t feel like checking, but yeah I kind of hated Dance Monkey too at first, and it also grew on me lol.
