Review:

This was a humorous, silly story about a man who inherits his ex's fortune but has to deal with said ex, who is now a ghost, trying to get him to join him in the afterlife. I chuckled a few times. There was a cute romance. It's a light book, despite some trigger/content warnings I'll mention below. The audiobook narration by Jason Frazier was kind of dramatic and borderline cartoony, but I did appreciate that he performed rather than merely reading. Overall, this didn't leave a big impression on me, but it was nice for a quick, light listen.

Trigger/Content Warnings: The word "crazy" is used a lot. Casual mentions of suicide. A list of ways to commit suicide when Mac is trying to convince Cal to join him in death. Mentions of someone dying of cancer.

Sometimes a vampire paranormal romance is just what you need, and this was a cute one! The romance started up kind of quickly, but it grew on me as the book went on. Ed was the quintessential brooding vampire in some ways, but not in others. He worried about hurting Sam, but, if I recall correctly, he didn't mind what he was. The way Ed couldn't be intimate without his vampire side taking over and putting Sam in danger added an element of difficulty to the romance and sex scenes that I enjoyed. I also liked their dynamic, how each was able to accept the darkness in the other (which was kind of a theme throughout the book). It was interesting to see how being with Ed kind of changed Sam, brought out more darkness in him, but not necessarily in a good or bad way, just a way that suited them and their relationship. And of course I always love me some sexy vampire biting sex scenes ;-) There was also a plot about crimes and murders and the two of them being in danger, but overall, this was sweet!

Review:

This was a soft, sweet romance story with a cozy, autumnul, witchy feel. I feel like it was mostly just the two characters talking about their feelings, Bartleby calling out Piotr for how he isolates himself, them discussing the future, and them finally reaching the point where they realized they both wanted each other. No plot, really. It gave the book a certain prettiness. The book also had a kind of soft sexiness to it at times; there were some brief explicit moments, but it was more just the way Bartleby carried himself and Piotr's attraction to him. Last but not least, Bartleby was gender-noncomforming and kind of genderfluid in how he presented himself, but he didn't mention a label or pronouns, and I really dug that because you rarely find characters who are noncomforming but don't use a specific label. Overall a nice story, especially for the Halloween time of year.

The audiobook narration by Joshua Macrae was alright (somewhat lacking performance in the dialogue, but still good), but it was very quiet, and something about the audio quality made it hard to understand. It was kind of hiss-y and whisper-y. Every word sounded like an S, even words with no S in them. So I think it was decent narration, but poor audio quality.

*This is part of a series, but this is a complete story, and it seems each book is about different characters.*

I know you enjoy a vampire novel so the second one sounds up your street. It does sound good so glad you enjoyed it. The first one The Ghost Slept Over sounds like it could be good though. I mean it sounds like it could go either way with the lighter tone but I think it sounds like a laugh.

Right? Definitely up my alley! The ghost one was definitely meant to be a light, silly sort of book, and I think the author did succeed. Maybe not super memorable, but I liked it.
