The Weekly Update: 11/12/17

I’m gonna make this short because chronic illness, tennis elbow, and stress have me not sure if I’m really feeling up to making the Sunday Post rounds, but I’m trying to stick to my every-other-week posting schedule for these.

Anyway, basically all that happened in the past two weeks was that I was hit on by someone with a foot fetish on Twitter when I posted about needing new slippers, I finally succeeded at making teriyaki roasted veggies, I cut my hair, and I made a thing in Photoshop based on a photo of Matthew (my sim):

Matthew Painting

It’s far from perfect, it’s really simplistic, and I’m still working on it, but it basically killed my arms to do this even this much, so I wanted to share it anyway.

Yep, that’s about it! Onto the bookish stuff.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

I won a giveaway! Thank you to Tammy @ Books Bones & Buffy and author Brad Abraham for my signed copy of Magicians Impossible!

Books I Received for Review:

Lovesick Gods by Amanda Meuwissen
The Consumption of Magic by TJ Klune

11/5/17: Lovesick Gods is from Enchanted Book Promotion. The Consumption of Magic is from Dreamspinner.

11/12/17: Nothing.

Books I Finished:

Vanishing Point by Bella Roccaforte
Abstraction by Bella Roccaforte
Darken by Bella Roccaforte
Bold Strokes by Bella Roccaforte
Smoke City by Keith Rosson

11/5/17: Well, I was disappointed by another book that I had been anticipating for years :-/ I finished my reread of the Deadly Dreams series and read the final book. I thought the complex characters and emotion/intensity that was building up in the previous books would make up for all the issues I had, but the final one didn’t seem to have much emotion or intensity at all, and I still have a bunch of unanswered questions from throughout the series, plus some things just got really strange all the sudden. I was planning on reviewing the books, but now I don’t think I will because I’m not even sure how I feel.

11/12/17: Smoke City was super character focused, and I really enjoyed it!

What I’m Loving:

This week, what I’m loving is…

The Trouble Notes

This video isn’t from their channel, but the song is beautiful, and watching him play and get so into it amazing! I’ve never been musically inclined, I can’t sing or play any instruments, but I’ve always thought violin was beautiful.

In Case You Missed It:

11/5/17:
– I reviewed Black Box Inc. by Jake Bible, a banter-filled urban fantasy.
– I talked about how I want more books about disability and medical needs in post-apoc worlds.
– I reviewed Hotblood! A Centaur in the Old West by Toril Orlesky, a unique webcomic/GN about a gay centaur in the Old West.

11/12/17:
– I reviewed Steel & Stone Companion Collection by Annette Marie, an amazing addition to the Steel & Stone series.
– I asked whether it’s possible to separate the author from the book.
– I reviewed Creatures of Will & Temper by Molly Tanzer, an LGBT+ Dorian Gray-inspired paranormal.

A foot fetish? lol Twitter… Teriyaki roasted veggies sound good (anything teriyaki is basically awesome). And how are the sims doing, BTW??

    Hope you feel better!

The Consumption of Magic looks kinda cool.

    Violin is amazing- cool song!

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah, Twitter is a strange place lol. The veggies were delicious! I agree, teriyaki in general is just great. I haven’t actually played in a while cuz I’ve been working on brainstorming to write about them instead (and now my time is also being taken up trying to learn how to art lol).

      Thanks 🙂

      The violinist is so good!

  2. verushka

AHHHH, Magicians Impossible! I am so jealous! I’ve been waiting for the audiobook of it to be released in Australia and at this point, I feel like it’s never going to happen. As for the Twitter foot fetishist… just noooooo.

  3. Karen Blue

Sorry to hear your aren’t feeling good. I get tenbis elbow sometimes and it just sucks. Sorry about your series reread too. That also sucks.
I love the video you shared. I hope you have a good week!

  4. Lola

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling too well! That’s awesome your recipe finally succeeded and I like that artwork you made of your sim.

That’s too bad about that series you re-read where the last book wasn’t as good as you hoped :(.

Sorry I haven’t stopped by as much lately. I hope this week will be a good one for you!

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks 🙂 And yay, you’re the only person so far who has commented on the artwork that I’ve been working really hard on, thank you <3

Yeah, the series was a bummer :-/

No worries, I know you've been busy!

  5. Wattle

Twitter is so weird, that foot fetish, slippers thing sounds bizarre lol

I hope you’re feeling better soon, chronic illness sucks 🙁

  6. suzanna

Sorry that you’re feeling bad 🙁

That violinist is awesome. So then I went looking for more videos from him. Now to get back to what I should be doing!

    1. Kristen Burns

Don’t worry, the tweet was non-threatening, I just had a chuckle and ignored it 🙂 Thank you! You’re only the second person to comment on the Photoshop painting, but I’ve been working hard on it, so the encouragement is helpful <3

      Thanks 🙂

    Happy Sunday!

I feel totally out of the loop this week. I was really busy and didn’t get anything blog related done so I have zip scheduled for next week. Oops…

I like how Matthew is turning out!

I think I either read something by Klune or have one of their books on my Kindle…but I’ve heard good things.

    For What It’s Worth

    1. Kristen Burns

Oh no! I’m sure you’ll manage to get some sort of posts figured out 🙂

      Thank you!

Yeah, he’s one of those authors who is much beloved by fans, for good reason. I’ve enjoyed numerous of his books.

  8. Becky @ A Fool's Ingenuity

I’m so late to comment on this. I hope you’ve got all rested up and are feeling a bit better. I saw that picture on Twitter and I was impressed then, it may be simplistic but you’ve done really well with the shading, especially since you don’t really draw on Photoshop much do you?

It sucks that a series you were mostly liking ended up failing with its last book. I hate when that happens because I end up disliking the series for it. At least the other book you read was good so yay.

I hope you’ve had a good week this week.

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks 🙂 And thank you about the picture! <3 I've dabbled in photo editing which is why I had a general understanding of Photoshop, but this was the first time I'd ever tried anything from scratch, and using a drawing tablet instead of a trackpad. It was daunting. But I still have so much to learn, diff methods to try... so it's all still daunting lol.

Yeah, it's disappointing :-/ But at least there are other good books out there 🙂

  9. Evelina @ AvalinahsBooks

I can see how your two-week schedule is also working out for me, cause I forgot to visit you last week 😀 you must’ve linked up later than me and I missed it. Good time to catch up!

A foot fetish… xD wow. Not something that happens every day 😀

I hope this week goes well for you, Kristen 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks, wifey <3 Haha way to look on the bright side 😉 I mean, the person never actually saw my feet? But idk, I happen to think my feet are pretty nice 😛 Ooh you should totally try teriyaki roasted veggies! I use almond oil, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and sesame seeds and for veggies I just buy this frozen blend of squash, zucchini, carrots, onions, green beans, and red peppers. It's delicious!

  10. Di @ Book Reviews by Di

Hey Kristen, sorry you were feeling down. 🙁 Hope you are having a better week?

Bahaha – the foot fettish thing sounds hilarious! Although a little creepy. I hope it was all harmless!

I also love the violin! I always wish that I could have learned how to play but I probably would have been awful!

I’m off to read your review of Night Realm!

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks 🙂 It might’ve been a bit better but then DUST happened and my sinuses have been a mess -_-

It was harmless, just one tweet that I ignored, which is why I was able to just have a laugh at the unexpectedness of it lol.

Violin is so beautiful! Like I’d kind of love to play it too just cuz it’s so cool? Except I know I would never have the discipline to learn it!
