Bookish Tag Post: Twelve Days of Christmas Book Tag

I felt like doing something Christmassy on the blog this year, apparently I’m becoming a more festive blogger šŸ˜› so I went and found a good book tag for the holiday season šŸ™‚

The original is here on YouTube at LizzieLovesBooks, and, as usual, I tag anyone and everyone who wants to join in!

A Partridge in a pear tree: Favorite Stand-Alone Book?
Black Snow by EAB

Black Snow by EAB | reading, books

Hmmm this is a hard one for me because standalones tend to be forgettable for me no matter how much I love them at the time, so I’ve chosen a more recently read one even though it’s not my highest rated. Also, it may end up being a series so my whole answer is a mess, but if it is, it’ll be different characters. Anyway, Black Snow was a wonderful book, and it seems fitting since it’s got the wintery cover šŸ˜›

Two Turtle Doves: Fictional OTP/Favorite Ship?
The Immortal Coil Series by J. Armand

The Immortal Coil by J. Armand | reading, books

I don’t really have a favorite, but I’ll go with the couple in this series because I just adore these two together, and they make such a perfect couple!!!

Three French Hens: Favorite Trilogy?
The Incubus Saga by Amanda Meuwissen & The Eden Trilogy by Keary Taylor

Incubus by Amanda Meuwissen | reading, books
The Bane by Keary Taylor | reading, books

Gah, another hard one! Both of these come to mind.

Four Calling Birds: Favorite Fictional Beast/Creature?

Vampires are creatures, right? šŸ˜‰

Five Golden Rings: Show 5 Golden Books

Fairy Godmother by Abbie Zanders | reading, books
The Golden City by J. Kathleen Cheney | reading, books
Origin by Pedro Urvi | reading, books
Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta | reading, books
The Golden Hourglass by Ben Mariner | reading, books

I had to do a bit of hunting since apparently I don’t really own gold books. But these are pretty, right?

Six Geese a Laying: Rotten egg – What’s your least favorite book? A Book that Has Something to Do with Birds
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen | reading, books

I don’t usually like talking about books I dislike, and this is supposed to be a positive holiday post! So I changed this one lol. And Flipped was just the perfect choice because bird on the cover, birds in the book… This was also one of my absolute favorites as a kid, and it turns out I had good taste because even rereading it as an adult, it was a great book.

Seven Swans a Swimming: Show a Book with Water on the Cover
Drown by Esther Dalseno

Drown by Esther Dalseno | reading, books

I don’t think I’ll ever not love this cover.

Eight Maids a Milking: What fictional food do you wish you could taste?
Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg

Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg | books, reading, book covers

I almost couldn’t think of one for this since I don’t pay much attention to food in books, but then I remembered that in Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet the protag had a special kind of magic and was able to infuse emotions and abilities into the things she baked, things like happiness or energy or love. And THAT would be some amazing food to have!

Nine Ladies Dancing: Favorite dance between two characters?
Slowly We Rot by Bryan Smith

Slowly We Rot by Bryan Smith | reading, books

The first thing that came to mind was this scene in Slowly We Rot in which the protag waltzes in the street with a zombie, and now I can’t think of anything else.

Ten Lords a Leaping: Favorite Book-To-Movie-Adaptation?
Big Fish

Big Fish

Big Fish Novel & Screenplay (1)Big Fish Novel & Screenplay (2)Big Fish Novel & Screenplay (3)

I haven’t seen very many, but Big Fish was my favorite movie for a long time and the only movie I know pretty much every word to (or at least I used to, it’s been a while). It’s also the only screenplay I own. (Btw the part in that first photo is one of my favorite scenes lol.) But I must admit I saw the movie before I read the book, and I don’t care for the book.

Eleven Pipers Piping: Favorite Book-To-Movie-Adaptation Soundtrack?
Sweeny Todd

Sweeney Todd

I don’t listen to movie soundtracks. Well, except musicals, but those generally aren’t books first. But I think Sweeney Todd originally appeared in a book, then a play was made, then a movie, and I do like that soundtrack.

Twelve Drummers Drumming: It’s the end of the song; what’s your favorite book ending?
The Gardella Vampire Hunters: Victoria Series by Colleen Gleason

Wow, what’s with all these hard questions about things I don’t think about?! Also, is this the order other people do this song? Because the version I’ve listened to my whole life does the last four in a completely different order. Anyway, I’m just going with the Gardella Vampire Hunters series for the sole reason that I knew exactly who I wanted the MC to be with the moment he was introduced in Book 1, and after lots of love triangle uncertainty, she did in fact end up with him in the end šŸ™‚

Standalones can be tough, although Black Sky does have a nice cover. The Eden trilogy (love THAT cover too) reminds me I was gonna read that. Need to write that down somewhere lol. And yeah vampires- there’s a shocker. šŸ˜›

I like some of those gold covers- the first one with the mask and The Golden Hourglass. Flipped is just cute.

Food with emotions? Yes please. Seriously how cool would that be, to have magic food? I can think of all kinds of story ideas there- we need more like that. Big Fish I haven’t seen. And yay for Colleen Gleason. Vampire hunters plus I (kinda) liked her Stoker & Holmes books.

I wish I could think of some good fictional foods- all that comes to mind are the elves stuff from Lord of the Rings. And Game of Thrones is all about food but half that stuff you wouldn’t want to eat lol.

    1. Kristen Burns

You really do need to write that down, haha.

Seriously I could very much use some magic food lol. You should definitely watch Big Fish though! Haven’t seen GoT, don’t think I wanna know what they eat.

  2. chucklesthescot

The order listed is what I learned the song as in Scotland tho I can’t speak for anyone else! I liked the look of the tag but a few questions seemed a bit too weird ie I don’t read books about people dancing or care what they eat or think of a film soundtrack that came from a book! It was fun reading your choices though!

    1. Kristen Burns

Oh come on, surely you’ve read about characters dancing just for a scene at least once! And my example was about a guy dancing with a zombie, you’d like that scene šŸ˜› Apparently lots of people love reading about food in books though?

  3. Vanessa

Oh wow! Look at those lovely covers. I’ve been holding myself not to buy some books this month because I’m basically broke, but I think I can pull something out haha.

  4. Rowena

Hey you! Long time, no chat. Sorry about that, I’ve been entirely too lazy these days. I blame it on the cold weather, or cooler weather since I live in L.A. and it never gets that cold here. I hope you’re doing well though! šŸ™‚

Are you doing anything on your blog for the holiday season? Hmm, just like commenting, I’ve been too busy to plan much for my blogs for anything, let alone the holidays. I suck.

What are some fictional foods I should try? I’ve got nothing for you for this one. Sorry! šŸ™

What’s your favorite book-to-movie adaptation? I’m more of a romantic so the movie for Me Before You was a good one for me. That’s probably my favorite recent book to movie adaptation.

    1. Kristen Burns

No worries, I haven’t been commenting much either, wrist pain :-/ But yeah, I can’t even, like, move when it’s a measly 70 degrees where I live, so I get you lol.

  5. Geraldine @ Corralling Books

Magic Bitter Magic Sweet sounds like a really interesting book! Food is my favourite and infusing emotions into food…that sounds so cool!
The cover of Flipped is also really cute! <3
I love that you changed the Rotten Egg question too – it's good to be positive and happy for the holidays šŸ™‚

    1. Kristen Burns

Magic Bitter wasn’t quite for me, but I know plenty of people liked it, so you might, especially if you like reading about food! And yay, glad you like my positivity šŸ˜€

  6. Lola

I think my favorite standalone would probably be A Mortal Song, really enjoyed that one and I mostly read series, so it’s hard to think of any standalones I read. I remember reading your review of Black Snow and it sure fits the winter theme. I enjoy reading about characters who are just such a perfect couple, all my 5 star reads this year would probably fit in this category.

Nice picks for the golden books, I can’t think of many books with gold on the cover either. I am not surprised you picked vampires for favorite creature. I probably would go with shifters. I don’t often watch movie adaptions, although I did recently watch the Lord of the Rings and we’re now watching the Hobbit. I don’t plan on reading the books as I am not sure I would enjoy them, but I did like seeing the movies. This was a fun post to read šŸ™‚

    1. Kristen Burns

I think I remember seeing Mortal Song on your blog. And yes, I love when couples are just perfect for each other!

I’ve seen LotR but don’t plan on reading the books either, so I totally understand! Thanks šŸ™‚

  7. Barb (boxermommyreads)

What an awesome tag. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Drown??? Wonder WHY I’ve never seen it??? I just added it to the wishlist. Also, I don’t know if i’m going to be able to pass up Slowly We Rot – a dance with a zombie, sign me up! I love Sweeney Todd too- blood and all! And that chick on Flipped is just so darn cute!

    1. Kristen Burns

Lol the cover of Drown is just so gorgeous that it can’t be resisted! And you should definitely read Slowly We Rot! It actually wasn’t very zombie-ish, but it was an AMAZING book. And yay, Sweeney fans unite!

  8. Ashley G.

This looks like an interesting tag! I enjoyed reading about the books you chose. My favorite cover would be the one with the masquerade mask. It makes me think of Phantom of the Opera. šŸ™‚

  9. La La in the Library

I had fogoitten about Big Fish! How could I have done that?! I like ve and adore that movie. I need to start getting all of my favoirite movies on DVD so I can watch them on my laptop whenever I want. It would have been a wonderful movie to watch on Thanksgiving. I love Sweeny Todd! I have the Broadway show recording CD. I should get the movie soundtrack downloaded to my Kindle tablet. I don’t think I have any gold books either. Ha ha. šŸ™‚

    1. Kristen Burns

Yay Big Fish fan! It’s such an underrated movie and so many people haven’t even seen it. Same for Sweeney! Funny, I just realized both are Tim Burton directed lol.

  10. Wren

Sweeney Todd is amazing! I love musicals. And I think that vampires are awesome too!

As for my own favourite book to movie adaptation, I honestly don’t know. I liked City of Bones and the Twilight films (sparkles + vampires = the best).

    1. Kristen Burns

I love musicals too, and Sweeney is so good! And I’m always happy to know someone is a fellow vampire lover šŸ˜€

I’ve not seen any of those movies, but I’m glad you liked them! Though to be honest I do prefer my vampires non-sparkly. Still like them sexy though šŸ˜›

  11. Bookworm Brandee

What fun! And very festive. šŸ˜‰ I loved Big Fish!!! And The Rest Falls Away….you have me very eager to jump back in, Kristen, if only to see if we wanted the same person. šŸ™‚

  12. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

This is awesome, Kristen! I may do this for the week of Christmas, as I don’t want to post any reviews that week. It tends to be fairly quiet, so lists and wrap-ups, tags and fun are great for that week.
I love that you changed the negative one to a positive šŸ™‚ Way to go for the season!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading.

    1. Kristen Burns

I’ve also got lots of wrap-ups and things planned lol, and no book reviews for the last two weeks of the year. Tags are definitely a great option! Thanks, you have a wonderful weekend too šŸ™‚
