So, in case you didn’t get this from the post title, I love book playlists. You know, playlists of songs that authors or readers create that are either inspired by the book or go with the book. I even make them myself sometimes (though, admittedly, I haven’t made any for a while).
And because I love them so much (also because I’ve been listening to one in particular a lot lately), I thought it’d make a quick but fun post to talk about why I love them and see what you all think of them!
Book Playlists Set the Mood While Reading
I’m someone who likes listening to music because, for me, the right music can really enhance a book reading experience by setting the mood and pulling me deeper into the emotions and general feeling of the book or even of a specific scene. So if there are already author-made or fan-made playlists out there, that’s fantastic because I can just listen to those instead of having to hunt down random playlists or YouTube videos that I think might fit the book. Author-made playlists can be the best sometimes because those are often the songs that the author used to get in the right mindset to write the book.
Book Playlists Remind Me of the Books
Even after I’ve finished a book, I like listening to book playlists because, if the songs are chosen well, I can feel those connections they have to the book, and they remind me of the book. And if it’s a book I like, being reminded of it makes me happy!
Book Playlists Make Me Feel
I think the books that go with music the best are the emotional ones. Emotional books means emotional songs. And once I start associating a certain playlist with certain songs to a certain book, it becomes this kind of Pavlovian response, I become conditioned to start feeling whatever emotion that book evoked any time I listen to the playlist. And I like feeling emotion. It can be inspirational, motivational, cathartic, or just plain enjoyable, depending on the emotion.
Music is Awesome
This isn’t exactly specific to book playlists, but music is probably the most widely enjoyed thing in the world. So it’s just nice having music to listen to period 🙂
