Bookish News: 10 Queer SFF Books I’m Excited For in 2025 (Part 2)

It’s the second half of the year, and that means it’s time to talk about more queer sci-fi/fantasy books I’m excited for! There’s never a shortage of great sounding books coming out, is there? At least, these all sound great to me, and hopefully you’ll still find something you’re excited for too! (A few might already have released recently, but that’s ok, just means we get to read them sooner!)

The Lavender Blade by E.L. DeardsThe Good Vampire's Guide to Blood & Boyfriends by Jamie D'AmatoThe Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara RaaschHazelthorn by CG DrewsFractured Magic by EM. Rowene

The Lavender Blade by E.L. Deards

Con artists who do fake exorcisms end up with one of them getting possessed for real. The other one has to figure out how to save his love. I love this premise, it sounds fantastic!

The Good Vampire’s Guide to Blood & Boyfriends by Jamie D’Amato

A 19-year-old is turned into a vampire and has a new crush on a boy who’s discovered his secret. I’ll never get tired of reading about vampires, and this one sounds sweet.

The Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara Raasch

Rival wizards in grad school working together to get a grant, and of course trying to resist feelings. I’m already a fan of some other Sara Raasch books I’ve read, and this one sounds like it’ll be a fun one!

Hazelthorn by CG Drews

A creepy estate, an even creepier garden, a main character obsessed with the boy who tried to kill him years ago, the two of them working together to solve the murder of their guardian. I don’t read a lot of horror, but every so often a horror book will pique my interest, and I’m intrigued by this one, especially having enjoyed another book by this author!

Fractured Magic by EM. Rowene

This one sounds like such a great fantasy adventure, complete with a rescue mission, a gothic world, magic, gods, and the undead, with the addition of romance and a heap of angsty feelings. What a great combo! According to a reviewer on Goodreads, this is a web serial, but it appears to be releasing soon as a book.

Red Star Hustle by Sam J. MillerAn Amateur Witch's Guide to Murder by K. ValentinHyperspeed by Lily JamesWitchlore by Emma HindsOf Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove

Red Star Hustle by Sam J. Miller / Apprehension by Mary Robinette Kowal

This is a double book with two separate stories. Red Star Hustle is a sci-fi thriller about an escort on the run, hopping through wormholes in space, maybe falling in love? Apprehension is about a grandma saving her grandson, and you don’t see many grandma MCs. I don’t know if Apprehension is queer, but, as far as I know, Red Star Hustle is, and this sounds like a cool book! I’ve enjoyed some other Sam J. Miller books, they were unique with messy queer characters, so I think this’ll be good.

An Amateur Witch’s Guide to Murder by K. Valentin

A witch who doesn’t know how to use his magic but starts a magic business so he can afford an exorcism to get rid of the demon trapped in his body. A client with a curse that keeps killing people. And it’s giving sort of romcom vibes? This sounds like a lot of fun and just my kind of book!

Hyperspeed by Lily James

I don’t usually read racing books, but that’s because they’re usually not sci-fi/fantasy. But this one is racing in space! With rivalry and romance to boot. There’s also mention of a prehensile tail. Sounds fun!
Amazon // Goodreads

Witchlore by Emma Hinds

A shapeshifter at a school for witches is grieving their dead girlfriend, a new boy offers to resurrect her with a spell, but the two of them develop feelings as they spend time together. This one sounds mysterious and magical and, from reviews, like it handles some heavier topics without getting too dark.

Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove

Classic monsters like werewolves and vampires… in space! And Dracula is the villain. And the main character is an AI ship. This sounds so campy and silly and fun but also sweet!

I always enjoy these posts :). The cover for The Entanglement of Rival Wizards caught my eye, I remember you reviewing some of that author’s books before and enjoying them. Might check that one out. And I like the title for The Good Vampire’s Guide to Blood & Boyfriends. You have me curious about An Amateur Witch’s Guide to Murder too. I actually have read a scifi book about racing before, but I agree that isn’t a combination you see often. Oh and Witchlore sounds interesting too.
