Update: Life and Books (Feb 2025)

I didn’t do much of anything this month, but I guess I can scrounge up a few things to talk about.

I watched Onward, the Pixar(?) movie. It made me cry! I feel like I’ve never seen anyone talk about this movie? I don’t remember seeing previews or anything. I had no idea it even existed. But it was so touching and sweet. A very cute brother relationship. Also, for anyone who’s seen it (has anyone seen it??), the dragon face made me laugh. I recommend it!

BG3 is still consuming most of my free time. Not complaining, I’m glad to have found something I love so much. But I’m sure all of you are sick of hearing about it 😅 The few people who followed me on Tumblr before I started using that to constantly post about BG3 surely must be. Anyway, here’s a picture from my current playthrough lol.

I don’t think I did anything else (besides, you know, surviving).

Blog/Bookish Updates:

I’m sorry, I only did one review in February. I haven’t been reading as much lately as I used to, and I ended up with a streak of books that weren’t really for me (even DNFed one, not included below), and I don’t force myself to review books I don’t feel like reviewing (unless maybe it’s a review copy, but I take so few of those nowadays). I plan to have a review this week though!

Books I Received for Review:

Thank you to Simon & Schuster for this lovely copy of Till Death by Kellan McDaniel! Always excited to have more vampire books on my shelf, especially queer ones 😁

Hardcover copy of Till Death by Kellan McDaniel. Cover features what appears to be two young men holding each other tenderly, one of whom has fangs and some blood on his mouth.

Books I Finished:

Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay ShoreBite Me! - You Know I Like It by Fae QuinWhere Foxes Say Goodnight by Sam BurnsTill Death by Kellan McDaniel

Two books with ghosts, two with vampires (you can probably guess which are which), all with m/m romance!

If you’re considering buying any of these books from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore – Not for me. Slow and meandering, too much telling not showing in the relationship, and it felt like whatever messages the author was trying to send were muddled and conflicting. I also think this book has a poorly chosen title/cover because it sounds like a cutesy paranormal romcom, and it’s really not.

Bite Me! (You Know I Like It) by Fae Quin – I think this could’ve been better with more editing, there were some good things here, like strong character voice, but I kept getting a bit lost in the drawn out writing and things that weren’t explained well or didn’t make sense to me. I’m also just personally not into characters immediately and often thinking about sex with each other upon meeting.

Where Foxes Say Goodnight by Sam Burns – Not bad, writing flowed well, but I didn’t really connect with the characters or romance, and I have no strong feelings about it.

Till Death by Kellan McDaniel – This book does take an unexpected turn partway through, it’s not a typical YA romance, but I enjoyed it! It explored some facets of vampirism/immortality in ways I’ve never seen before. (I am going to review this one, so I won’t get super detailed here.)

I think I’ve seen a few posts about Onward, but I don’t feel a lot of people talk about it. I am glad to hear you enjoyed it and it was so sweet. And I think it’s awesome you’re still having so much fun with BG3, it’s great when you find something that can keep your attention for so long.

Good to hear your thoughts about Rules for Ghosting as I was considering buying that as it was discounted, but I don’t think it’s for me either. It sure sounds like a cute read from the title, seems that doesn’t fit the story. Till Death sounds like it was good and I look forward to your review for it.

I looked up Onward, and it does sound like an emotional (though also funny) movie! I suppose it was due to the bad timing of coming out when the Covid threat started rising its head that ruined its chances at a better recognition.
I’m glad Simon & Schuster still loves you and is consistently providing books that you end up loving! Sorry the rest of your reading month was a bit meh.

I’ve seen Till Death around. I look forward to your thoughts.

I’ve never heard of Onward. I’ll have to look it up. I assume if it’s Pixar that It’s on Disney. I hope so!
