Update: Life and Books (Aug 2025)

As usual, I don’t have any good life stuff to talk about, so let’s see, what else do I have…

I played something other than BG3 (a rare occurrence nowadays), a little game called Lovingly Evil. I already reviewed it, so you can check that out if you’re interested. Tbh, some things didn’t quite work for me, but the two romances I did were cute.

Screenshot from Lovingly Evil of an attractive blond male vampire saying, 'Maybe you could even help me with a hunt or two.'

I’ve been watching Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Super random, I know, but years ago I had watched a bunch of it but then never saw the conclusion. I’ve also found a lot of new YouTube channels that I’m enjoying, their shorts at least, but I was thinking I might do a whole post about that. Though I keep coming up with post ideas and then just never doing them, so we’ll see.

Also, I have to admit, I had never listened to any Chappell Roan songs (that I know of) until very recently when I happened to hear Pink Pony Club, and now I can’t stop listening to it, it’s such a good song! (You have to give it a chance to build up.)

Blog/Bookish Updates:

Nothing this month.

Books I Received for Review:

Andalusia Dogs by Christian Baines

I got Andalusia Dogs by Christian Baines, from the author. M/M historical paranormal with witches. I’ve reviewed lots of his books, looking forward to another!

If Looks Could Kill by Julie Berry. The cover is an illustration of a girl's face, all in bold red and purple and orange. She has an intense look and snakes mixed in with her hair. The bottom sorta fades out and turns into a view of a city street. The bare hardcover is red and has sort of an outline of the same girl's face in shiny purple foil.

I received If Looks Could Kill by Julie Berry, from Simon & Schuster. It’s described as “a true-crime-nailbiter-turned-mythic-odyssey pitting Jack the Ripper against Medusa.” That sounds so unique! The hardcover also has this really pretty design of the character under the dust jacket in purple… foil? It’s shiny, so it looks lighter/darker when light hits it differently.

By Invitation Only by Alexandra Brown Chang. Cover has four teens in fancy clothes with the title in big pink letters. The book under the dust jacket is showing, bright pink to match the text.

I also received By Invitation Only by Alexandra Brown Chang, from Simon & Schuster. It’s not sci-fi/fantasy, so I won’t be reviewing it here, but the hardcover is the most vibrant shade of bubblegum pink! My photos don’t do it justice. More hardcovers should be fun colors, I love it!

Books I Finished:

Wishing for Coal by Emma JayeVesuvius by Cass Biehn

If you’re considering buying any of these books from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

Wishing for Coal // Christmas in July // Naughty or Nice by Emma Jaye – I reread the first two because I remembered being curious about the third that wasn’t out yet, and I thought there was important stuff I’d forgotten. I shouldn’t have, I liked them less this time 😅 I wouldn’t say the books were bad, but they weren’t really for me.

Vesuvius by Cass Biehn – Queer historical fantasy about two teens in Pompeii before the eruption. I liked this, it had some nice writing and interesting characters.

Random rec but I know you said you liked Honeysuckle youtube so here’s another cute food one – https://www.youtube.com/@jolly It’s two British friends that introduce their friends to American food and get their reactions. I really have just watched the student ones but it’s pretty funny.
