Update: Life and Books (Dec 2024)

Happy new year, I guess? For me it’s just new year, same problems. But this post is about 2024 still! Not that I have much to say. I didn’t do anything for the holidays, so I had a standard month. Worried about health things that there just is no solution for. At least, not with this country and the healthcare system and my living situation being what it is.

I made some art though! Nothing exciting, I just looked at a picture and drew it, but that’s more than I’ve done in months. It was a refresher on how to use my drawing tablet, if nothing else. It’s Zevlor from BG3.

Digital sketch that looks like pencil or charcoal, with dramatic lighting and lots of dark shadow, of Zevlor from BG3 looking sad with furrowed brow. He's an attractive older tiefling with a very angular face, square chin, prominent cheekbones with bumped ridges on them, a big nose, a small skin bump next to his nose, plump lips with a little divot in the bottom one, prominent brow ridge, some winkles next to his eyes and around his mouth, black sclera eyes with lighter irises, horns, and pointy ears.

I actually took a brief break from playing the game though *gasp* Shocking, I know! I tried out Cultist Simulator and was so lost at first (still sort of am), but in a fun way. After a few hours, it has started to feel a bit grindy, and I’m feeling a bit stuck, but I don’t want to give up yet, it’s a cool game. It’s just a little too hard on my head right now, I’ve been taking tylenol like every day, and all the reading and eye movement made that worse.

I also played a tiny bit of Project Zomboid because they dropped a beta version of the newest patch that adds animals! It’s been so long that I barely remember the controls. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with previous saves, so poor Collin will never get a pet cow. He would’ve loved that 😞 But I made a new character and found a sheep and just brought the sheep into the house because I didn’t know what else to do with it lol. This game is also too hard on my body right now, I get tense and have to be alert while playing, because zombies, so I don’t think I’ll play much, but the sheep was cute 😄

Project Zomboid screenshot of a sheep and a dirty, bloody man in mechanics coveralls in a small house. Simplistic, low poly graphics.

I did this in January, so it technically doesn’t belong in this post, but… I watched The Wild Robot, and it was amazing! The best movie I’ve seen in a while. It was visually and emotionally beautiful and cute and made me tear up like four times. I loved it and recommend it!

Oh I just remembered I watched a bunch of other movies too lol. Turning Red, Luca, Wish, Barbie. They were all enjoyable enough. None of them left a big impression on me though.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

Not really an update, but I know my posts have been sparse lately, so if you’re still around, thanks 🙂

Also, I will be joining the Discussion Challenge again, hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight! See? I am still trying to make posts lol. I’m going for Creative Conversationalist, which is 11-20 discussion posts, since I’m going to try and do one a month. I think I managed to meet that goal in 2024. *pats self on back*

Books I Received for Review:

I don’t think I got any. I don’t really request anymore, aside from the occasional audiobook or authors/publicists who contact me with a book I’m super interested in. I get most books from the library nowadays.

Books I Finished:

Don't Let the Forest in by CG DrewsMending Noel by Charlie Cochet

If you’re considering buying any of these books from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

Don’t Let the Forest in by CG Drews – This was a cool, slightly surreal horror. I liked the writing and the relationship between the MC and his best friend and the ace rep.

Mending Noel // The Heart of Frost // The Valor of Vixen // Loving Blitz // Disarming Donner // Courage and the King by Charlie Cochet – I reread this whole series (they’re short books). It was my one bit of holiday spirit. They’re fluffy, not super deep books, but they’re cute, and there’s one scene in the last book that lives rent-free in my head, so I felt like rereading them. (They got new covers, and they’re cute, but I haven’t downloaded/resized/uploaded them, so this is still the old one.)

Talk to me!

Have you found any good books, games, movies, etc. lately?
Have you seen The Wild Robot??

It’s so unfair that you can’t do any physical activity, and on top of that, even reading or playing is hard on you. The art piece is cool! also the concept.

“But I made a new character and found a sheep and just brought the sheep into the house because I didn’t know what else to do with it lol.”
😂 Sheep milk? Is the sheep a she?

It’s great that you’re still aiming at writing discussion posts…I can’t even find the time and will to participate in the TMST meme most of the time (though I produced a bunch of prompts for it)…all my energy is sucked by reading, reviewing and commenting.

It sucks 😞 Thanks! If you’re talking about the heart, I only did that because the image I was using was close up, and I didn’t want to figure out the horns lol.

There’s lots of things you *can* do with the animals to get food and stuff, I just don’t know how how 😅 It let me give the sheep water from my water bottle, but I couldn’t figure out how to feed it. Maybe it ate grass when I put it outside later.

Not many of us are posting regularly anymore lol

I’m afraid of Wild Robot – it looks so sad but I know it will be good.
