Bookish Musings: Opening Lines (2)

Bookish Musings: Opening Lines (2)

I did a post with opening lines before, and I'm doing it again because I just think it's really interesting to look at the opening lines of books! I don't know about you all, but I tend to just kind of gloss over the first line, in a way, and immediately forget it by the time I'm a few sentences deep. I don't really stop to pay attention to just the opening line specifically when I'm starting...

Bookish Musings: Opening Lines

Bookish Musings: Opening Lines

I don't think the first line of a book has to be the absolute best. Truthfully, how many people are reading ONLY the first line and then giving up on a book? I do think a great first line can hook a reader who might've been on the fence though. And regardless, I just thought it'd be a fun idea to look at the opening lines of some different books... and have a fight to the death! Just kidding...

Book Review: Wasteland King (Gallow and Ragged Book 3) by Lilith Saintcrow

The plague is loose upon the fae realms, but, as a half-sidhe, Jeremiah remains unaffected and has other things to worry about, like the deal he makes with Unwinter that might end in his (Jeremiah's) death but will at least keep Robin safe. Robin, however, having no where else to go, makes a deal of her own with Unwinter, and the only thing on her mind is getting revenge on...

Book Recs: 10 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Books with No Romance

Book Recs: 10 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Books with No Romance

In honor of Valentine's Day, I have decided to make a post for all the people out there who are NOT looking for love! Well, not in books, at least ;-) Romance in books is great. I like it. I really do! But, on occasion, I'm just not in the mood for it. And a book doesn't have to have romance to be amazing! I can't promise there's not a single mention of romance or feelings in all of these,...

Cover Characteristics: Best Book Covers from Books I Read in 2016

Cover Characteristics: Best Book Covers from Books I Read in 2016

So you know how I usually choose ten covers/series for my Cover Characteristic posts? Well... Hahahahahahahahaha---Not happening this time. I don't know what happened this year, if it was just coincidence or if I started judging books more by their covers and letting myself be drawn in by all the pretty ones, but I read SO MANY books with gorgeous covers this year, and I want to share them all....

The Weekly Update: 10/16/16

I did it! I actually did it! I saved my old email from the clutches of complete chaos and utter spamdom! See, I have this other email (not the one I use for blogging) that I used to use for everything. But over the years, it became completely overrun with newsletters and spam. You know how it is, you order something from a website one time, or you input your email for a contest, or you sign up...

Bookish Tag Post: Olympic Book Tag

Bookish Tag Post: Olympic Book Tag

I wasn't planning on doing this tag since I've never actually done any tags before, but I figured this would be my one and only chance since the Olympics don't last very long and won't be around for another four years... So here I am! Doing my first tag. I have to admit I don't watch many of the sports, but, since I used to be a gymnast, I am always super excited about the summer Olympics just...

Bookish Musings: Ten Awesomely Interesting Book Titles

Bookish Musings: Ten Awesomely Interesting Book Titles

I share a lot of book covers on this blog, but I also find myself noticing a lot of other bookish things like blurbs and titles, and sometimes I like to share those too. I mean, covers are not the only thing that influences my decision to buy or read a book. Titles are the first thing I see right along with the cover, and they probably have just as much influence since they often are what gives...

Robin is back on the run, wanted by both Summer and Unwinter, and all Jeremiah wants to do is find and protect her. But Jeremiah is also on the run and has problems of his own, like the poisoned wound that's slowly killing him and the reappearance of an old friend-turned-enemy. They will both have to figure out who they can trust if they're going to escape the clutches of the Seelie and Unseelie...

The Weekly Update: 5/29/16

The Weekly Update: 5/29/16

This is going to be a sad commentary on my dependency on technology, but my internet and cable went down for a few hours the other night, and I had nothing to do because even the book I was reading was borrowed online, and all I could think about was how I couldn't even post a status update to tell everyone that my internet was down. And then I thought about how I was going to have to start a...
