Cover Characteristics: Book Covers featuring Books

Bookworms are weird.

Case in point: Book photography. I told my friend about it one day, and she didn't get it. To her, the cover was the art, so why do you need a whole picture? We just do because they're so pretty and we like to touch them and look at them and arrange them with other pretty things and can never have enough of them and that's just how much we love books.

Which brings me to the main point---that I love this week's topic! And only a bookworm would get this excited about book covers featuring books. Or books about books. Or characters who are fellow book lovers. Or anything that involves sentences that contain the word book more than once.

It's like book-ception.

And I love it.

Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. This week’s topic is:

Believe it or not, I don’t usually like covers with random shirtless men, but look! There are books in the background! I promise!

The Nine by J. Elizabeth Hill

It’s simple, but I love the color.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I love how the background is a giant book.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

Those books are just so pretty, and the font seems like it fits perfectly with the storytime/fairytale vibe!

The cover is so crisp and intriguing and THOSE GORGEOUS BOOKSHELVES.

The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler

I’ve always liked this cover—the colors, the font, and what bookworm doesn’t love the look of old books?

The Broken Teaglass by Emily Arsenault

I love the way text looks. It’s so aesthetically pleasing to me. So that plain text combined with the red makes this cover beautiful to me.

The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen

I can never resist vampires, and I can never resist the color red, and I can never resist color splashes. In other words, I was doomed to pick this cover. (Plus, the story is about a girl helping a vampire who comes out of a book to hunt down some other vampire, so it’s on my TBR!)

The Magic Ex Libris Series by Jim C. Hines

Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines | books, reading, book covers, cover love
Codex Born by Jim C. Hines | books, reading, book covers, cover love
Revisionary by Jim C. Hines | books, reading, book covers, cover love

I really love -mancy type magic, and when it involves something I love, EVEN BETTER! So people who can go magically go into books? Yes, definitely on my TBR as soon as I saw the word Libriomancer. And the covers look action-packed and magical.

My Favorite:
The Echoes Trilogy by KC McDonald

Echoes of Immortality by KC McDonald | books, reading, book covers, cover love
Echoes of Enchantment by KC McDonald | books, reading, book covers, cover love

Books are magical, so how can you not love a cover that actually makes them look magical? Plus I just love this type of cover art.

I’m glad someone else loves the Echoes covers, too!

Haha, right? I definitely don’t mind having those men inside the book! But covers with half naked guys cut and pasted onto a background usually aren’t very creative or exciting.

These are all so pretty! I think these are all new to me covers and I enjoyed seeing how many books covers feature books on them. I think the Echoes trilogy covers are my favourite as well as it makes the book look so magical! And I like how each cover has it’s own colour as well. The Thirteenth Tale also is very pretty with that nice stack of books. Or The Shadow of the Wind with how it looks like the he’s walking inside a book. Love this feature! It’s so fun to watch at all those pretty covers!

Thanks! Book covers really are so fun to look at because I love books (obviously) and I’m a visual person, so I love doing this meme every week. The Echoes books are beautiful, right?! The magical-ness just makes them even better. I’m glad you like my choices!

I like your picks. Wish I would have thought of a few of them. 🙂 I think my favorites are Echoes of Enchantment and The Vampire Stalker. I love the green in Echoes of Enchantment…

And how did I not think of Libriomancer? Argh.

    This was a fun one… 🙂

Thanks! Echoes of Enchantment is the one I like more too because of the green. Vampire Stalker is also one of the covers I like most, but I don’t really know why and didn’t think other people would like it, so I’m kind of glad someone else does lol. This definitely was a fun one!
