Cover Love: Book Covers with Summer Vibes

Blogging has been difficult for me lately, I haven’t done much more than reviews and monthly updates, so here I am to humbly present to you all a cover love post! It’s summer now, so let’s all enjoy some summery book covers.

I feel like there are a ton of books out there with very tropical, poolside, summery covers, but those are usually not sci-fi/fantasy, which is what I focus on here. You know me though, I can find covers for anything! So I found some that are surprisingly perfect, and for some, I gave it a bit of my own twist, finding things that I personally associate with summer. And as usual, I don’t know what season most of these are actually set in, and these aren’t necessarily recommendations, I’m just going off the vibes of the covers. (Also, these all ended up being queer, even though I didn’t plan that! Granted that’s mostly what I read nowadays, but I went pretty far back to find some of these.)

*Rather than text links, the book covers below are affiliate links to Amazon US! If you’re interested in any of these, using my link would help me make a small amount of money, at no additional cost to you.*

Dauntless Summer by Emmaline Strange

Am I cheating by using a book with “summer” in the title? Yes. But hey, it works! And it has beautiful art.

The Temperature of Me and You by Brian Zepka

I read this, don’t remember it much, but the cover itself feels like a campfire on a warm summer night.

Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz

Another thing I associate with summer is the ocean. You know, where fish are 😄 I hate fishing and always have, but my parents used to drag me out and make me do it, so this cover actually does make me think of summer. And I do like the cover, despite negative memories.

Tales from Blackthorn Briar by Sebastian Nothwell

Lots of greenery can be spring or summer vibes, but for me, it feels more spring if there are flowers and some other colors, and more summer if it’s mostly grass and green. Does that make sense? Anyway, this cover is gorgeous.

Out of the Blue by Jason June

I found a SFF book with a pool on the cover! I did it! And it’s pretty!

In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens

I also found one with the ocean! Another beautiful cover. I love the use of colors in this one especially, very evocative of sunsets.

Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, bodies of water make me think of summer. It’s the time for swimming, you know? So here’s another pretty water-based cover that also has nice use of colors.

The Merman: Acceptance by X. AratareThe Merman: Caller by X. AratareThe Merman: Landfall by X. Aratare

The beach this time! This whole series has beachy, watery covers that make me think of summer, so I thought I’d share a few.

The Summer Palace by C. S. Pacat

Yes, I know, I’m using another book that has “summer” in the title, but the cover does have a very idyllic summer beach vibe!

Only the Good Die Young by E.M. Jeanmougin & Jay Wright

Come on, surely no one can deny the summer vibes of this one. The orange and pink sunset colors, the palm trees, everything about this! And, of course, also gorgeous. (Also a fantastic series that I do recommend that not enough people know about!)

This was a fun post. I actually already had Out of Blue on my wishlist as it sounds fun. I definitely agree with the ocean feeling summer-y even though I usually only visited the ocean a few times during summer and only when I was young. And nature can feel summer-y, but it depends a bit on what it looks like as you mentioned as some have a more spring feel if there are a lot of flowers. The artwork on In deeper Waters is great and I also really like the nature rich cover for Tales From Blackthorn Briar.
