Review:
*I received an ecopy of this book from the authors. This has not influenced my review.*
I had been waiting for this one after the past few books, and it didn’t disappoint! It was so fun seeing the whole group back together, working together. Or rather, struggling to work together, but that was definitely part of the fun. These characters and their relationships are flawed and messy and touching, some of them would do anything for each other, some of them don’t even like each other, some of them love each other but still have issues to work out. So they may have their struggles, but all the loyalty and love between characters balances it out.
I also just love these character individually. Crimson, the immortally old werespider who is charming and obnoxious and emotionally mature and completely oblivious all at once. Jasper, the not-quite-human who is more quiet and reserved but has dealt with all the hate and danger and messed up situations thrown at him with an incredible amount of grace and understanding and growth. I feel like it’d be easy for a character like Jasper to be overshadowed by a character like Crimson, but he stands out to me just as much. Alan, Alcander, Max, Ret, they all stand out and feel unique.
It was a good plot too, some stakes and action and fun and danger and magic all mixed in.
Anyway, it’s the seventh book in a series, so if you’ve been enjoying it so far, it’s worth continuing, and if you haven’t started, I recommend that you do!
