Update: Life and Books (Jan 2026)

Good work everyone, we’ve made it through another month!

To be honest, I don’t even know what I did in January. Survived? I played some Palia (my referral link), but even that has slowed up. I tried playing Sable, but I think I’m giving up because the movement is too slow and clunky for me, making the exploration not fun. Technically I think this was in February, but I also played a bit of Rollercoaster Tycoon, the original! (At least I think it’s the original, it’s called Deluxe on Steam.) It was a blast of nostalgia to my childhood. Oh, I also watched Renfield. I guess I forgot the trailer because I didn’t realize it would be so gory, but it was fun! Also the first movie I’ve seen with Nicholas Hoult (surprising, given how long his IMDB list is), and he was really good.

Rollercoaster Tycoon screenshot. Old school graphics. There's a swinging ship ride, a ferris wheel, a carousel, a big spiral slide, a spinny ride, a hint of rollercoaster, and a bunch of people in queues.

I really don’t think I did anything else worth talking about *shrug*

Blog/Bookish Updates:

My blog is having some issues again, and it’s really concerning because I’m completely at a loss as to what’s causing them and how to fix them. Anyway, if you try to visit at some point and it’s not working, something is wrong, things are missing, etc., just know I’m trying.

Books I Received for Review:

Sibylline by Melissa de la CruzHe's the Devil by Tobi Coventry

I got Sibylline by Melissa de la Cruz (audiobook) and He’s the Devil by Tobi Coventry (audiobook) from the Libro.fm ALC program! (Those links are to their Libro.fm pages.) Sybilline is about three teens at a magical school and people are being killed and there’s a messy queer love triangle thing? Sounds interesting. He’s the Devil is listed as literary fiction, but it sounds like it also has some fantasy elements, about someone getting a new roommate and then weird things happening. Also sounds interesting.

Physical ARC of The Last Best Quest Ever by FT Lukens. Cover is artwork of an androgynous black-haired person in royal clothes somewhat on top of a brown-haired girl in adventuring clothes. The royal is holding an arrow to the girl's chest, and the girl is holding a knife to the royal's throat, both looking more flirty than threatening.

I got an ARC of The Last Best Quest Ever by FT Lukens, from Simon & Schuster! It comes out in May. It’s a fantasy about a girl who’s been lying about her questing skills having to go on a quest with an eclectic team, including maybe a nonbinary love interest. I’m always excited when I get a new FT Lukens book, and this one sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of fun! (Also I like how the cover matches my flowers. I imagine the hardcover will be even prettier.)

Books I Finished:

If you’re considering buying any of these books from Amazon, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my affiliate link!

Steal the Light by Lexi BlakeSteal the Day by Lexi BlakeSteal the Moon by Lexi BlakeSteal the Sun by Lexi BlakeSteal the Night by Lexi Blake

I decided to reread the Thieves series by Lexi Blake after a six-year break from it (I had read it every year for five years in a row). I’ve been debating doing a sort of discussion post with updated thoughts, or maybe just a discussion about revisiting old favorites after time has passed. I have always had some complaints about this series, the things I loved just always outweighed those. It didn’t hit quite the same this time, maybe because that’s just how it is eventually when you no longer have new things to notice or make you laugh or create tension. Or maybe I’ve just changed. That being said, there are still things about the series that are great, and it was still a comforting read, like being back with an old friend.

George Falls Through Time by Ryan Collett

I also listened to George Falls Through Time by Ryan Collett, which I got an ALC of from Libro.fm. It was unique and did have a significant SFF element beyond just one instance of time travel, but I didn’t really like the main character, and I have mixed feelings about the book. Great audio narrator though.
