Quick Reviews: Bright Spark // Keen Sense // Quick Fire // Clear Sight // & More

This time for quick reviews I have the Psions of SPIRE series by Alex Silver! All four main books, plus two extra novellas. This is a series with diverse queer rep about people with psionic abilities (telekinesis, empathy, etc.). Each book focuses on different characters, but they’re all connected into one storyline, so I recommend reading them in order. I enjoyed them!

*Quick Reviews are posts where I share summaries and links for reviews I’ve recently posted to Goodreads and Amazon but don’t plan to make full review posts for here on the blog. Tag links are at the end.*

Bright Spark (Psions of SPIRE Book 1) by Alex Silver

Bright Spark by Alex Silver

In Bright Spark, two teens are pulled apart over outside forces and miscommunication when one of them develops psionic abilities, only to run into each other and get a second chance years later.

This started off with a lot of world-building and backstory, but eventually it got to the romance and the fighting for psion rights against a corrupt organization. There was also polyam rep and a nice found family element.

*Rating: 3.5 Stars // Read Date: 2020 // Format: Ebook via TTS*

Recommended For:
Anyone who likes mlm romance, second chance romance, open polyamorous relationships, and telekinetics (this book). Anyone who likes queer romance, diverse queer rep, healthy relationships with lots of communication, supernatural mind abilities, detailed world-building, a bit of conspiracy-esque drama, a bit of action, and found family (series).

Keen Sense (Psions of SPIRE Book 2) by Alex Silver

In Keen Sense, a man develops empath abilities and starts falling for the man who works as an anchor at the hospital and saves his life.

Similar to the first, but this time about a m/m romance with a bit of angst, an empath, and the setup for more psionic work-related conspiracy and action.

Quick Fire (Psions of SPIRE Book 3) by Alex Silver

In Quick Fire, a pyrokinetic with unstable abilities finds a telepath whose aura meshes with theirs, and their mutually beneficial work relationship quickly becomes romantic as well.

A romance between a nonbinary ace person and an allosexual trans guy that touched on a lot of aspects of gender and sexuality, plus pyrokinesis!

Clear Sight (Psions of SPIRE Book 4) by Alex Silver

In Clear Sight, a psionic anchor who’s tired of only ever being a temporary link to people finally finds his match in a telepathic, pre-cognitive psion whose abilities work in unusual ways.

This romance felt the most organic to me, parts of the story touched upon neurodiversity, and it was overall a nice series finale!

Shelter (Psions of SPIRE Book 0.5) by Alex Silver

In Shelter, best friends Elliott and Caleb reunite after losing touch as teens when they developed psionic abilities and deal with the struggles of life.

I enjoyed getting to know these two characters more, and this tackled a lot of heavy topics.

Bold Move (Psions of SPIRE Book 1.5) by Alex Silver

In Bold Move, Aaron meets Jake’s other boyfriends for the first time, and the four of them work on strengthening the bonds in their polycule.

A nice look at how things progress after Book 1 with a portrayal of a polycule that is nuanced with struggles but also lots of love.
