Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten 2016 Releases I’m Looking Forward To

I know this isn't the correct topic for this week, but honestly, I don't even pay attention to what books are released, nor do I actually schedule what books I want to read ahead of time. So 2015 releases I meant to get to but didn't is too difficult for me.

But I never actually participated in any of the 2016 release posts! So I figured this would be a good time to do that since there are series I know are releasing books this year, plus it's not too hard to scroll through my Amazon wishlist and spot the books that's aren't out yet. (But I'm only using books that have covers already because I like putting pretty pictures on my blog!)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic I’m doing this week is:

Top Ten 2016 Releases I’m Looking Forward To

Asleep by Krystal Wade | books, reading, book covers
The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury | books, reading, book covers
Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell | books, reading, book covers
Wax by Gina Damico | books, reading, book covers
A Criminal Magic by Lee Kelly | books, reading, book covers

10. Asleep by Krystal Wade

A creepy Sleeping Beauty retelling! I think.

9. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

An Aladdin retelling! That’s all I know, but do I really need to know more?

8. Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell

A Peter Pan retelling because I’m really into retellings right now!

7. Wax by Gina Damico

A boy made of wax who comes to life and escapes from the creepy wax-people-filled candleshop! Then townspeople start turning into wax. Definitely sounds interesting.

6. A Criminal Magic by Lee Kelly

Prohibition and speakeasies with magic instead of alcohol! I’ve always been fascinated by the Prohibition Era and fantasy is my favorite, so a perfect combination, yes?

Burning Midnight by Will McIntosh | books, reading, book covers
Unleash the Storm by Annette Marie | books, reading, book covers
Roadside Magic by Lilith Saintcrow | books, reading, book covers
Sleeper by Lexi Blake
House of Kings by Keary Taylor | books, reading, book covers

5. Burning Midnight by Will McIntosh

Magical spheres that show up and can make you better, taller, smarter, more attractive… and then the rarest one of all is found and characters have to go on the run and it just sounds so unique!

4. Unleash the Storm (Steel & Stone Book 5) by Annette Marie – Book 1 Review

Sexy daemons, kickass characters, and major action! Series ending—need I say more?!

3. Roadside Magic (Gallow and Ragged Book 2) by Lilith Saintcrow – Book 1 Review

Cruel faeries and beautiful writing! I loved the first book when I read it in December and have been dying to get my hands on this one ever since!

2. Sleeper (Thieves Book 8) by Lexi Blake – Book 1 Review

Vampires, demons, faeries, werewolves, and all sorts of hilariousness! This series has crept its way up to being one of my absolute favorites. And you know how some series, even though you like them, you’re ready for them to finish? That’s not this one. I could keep living in this world forever.

1. House of Kings (House of Royals Book 3) by Keary Taylor – Book 1 Review

Vampires, intrigue, romance, and Mississippi charm! Book 2 blew me away, and the cliffhanger ending is killing me. I need to know what’s going to happen!

I love how you include your own little summaries for each book! I love retelling books and now I’ve added a few more to my tbr thanx to your post! Lol

    1. Kristen Burns

I figured my little one-sentence summaries would help people find books they might be interested in, and apparently it worked, so yay 😀 Glad you found some new books for the TBR!

  2. Barb(boxermommyreads)

Just read A Criminal Magic a few weeks ago and would say that yes, you definitely need to pick it up. It is great in almost every aspect. AND THE ENDING!!!! Hope you get all of these read in 2016.

I’m really looking forward to releases from Richelle Mead, Karen Marie Moning, and Patricia Briggs this year. But you have me excited about some series now…especially Keary Taylor’s. I don’t think I’ve heard of it before but I’ll be checking it out. 😀

    1. Kristen Burns

I am looking forward to *starting* Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series lol. I’m not sure if I have any Karen Marie Moning on my TBR, but I know I recognize the name. I’m not sure Richelle Mead’s books are really for me though, but I’m glad you’re excited 🙂 I definitely recommend House of Royals if you’re into somewhat slower-paced character-driven novels! I gave the second book 4.5 stars which doesn’t happen all that often from me 😛

  4. Samantha

I’m SO looking forward to A Forbidden Wish and Unhooked too! Aladdin and Peter Pan re-tellings? Sign me up!

I haven’t heard of the rest of the books on your list, but Wax sounds like it’s going to be strangely interesting! Great list 😀

    1. Kristen Burns

Right? I don’t even need the details, just knowing they’re retellings is enough lol. And I heard about Wax through someone else’s blog, can’t remember who, but I also thought it sounded strangely interesting. Thank you!

I’ve read a couple books by Jessica Khoury and they were pretty good, so hopefully that one is too. Unhooked has a nice cover, seems like you could do some interesting things with Neverland, so maybe that’s good too. And Roadside Magic- there’s that cover artist again! I think I like this one even better… 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

I haven’t read any of her books, but I feel like there probably aren’t that many Aladdin retellings out there, so I want to read it for that reason. It seems like there are a million and one retellings of Peter Pan, but this one looks like one that’d be of more interest to me since my favorite character in the original is Hook.

Haha, I love that I’ve got you talking about his cover art now. I’m still partial to Trailer Park Fae, but I cannot deny that Roadside Magic is also awesome 😀

  6. Anissa @ She Reads Too Much

Soo many amazing choices Kristen! I’m really looking forward to The Forbidden Wish, Unhooked, and A Criminal Magic! I’m definitely going to check out all the other titles you’ve posted – it’s been way too long since I read an adult book!

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks! Yeah, I’ve always got kind of a mix of adult and YA here since I read both all the time lol. This year really does have some great books to look forward to though!

  7. Lola

The cover for Asleep is seriously creepy. I see quite some sequels on your list, I think the sequels are often the books I am most excited for as I already read and enjoyed the previous books and want more. The cover for Roadside Magic is as pretty as the one for the first book. I am looking forward to hear what you think of that one. A Criminal Magic sounds very good, very interesting plot with how magic is prohibited. I’ll have to look that one up on goodreads.
Great list and I hope you get to read an enjoy tall these books this year! You already read my post on this topic, so I am not going to list them again here ;).

I do love me my series! I have even more coming out this year (considering my series reading issue has reached new heights and I’m currently in the middle of over 20 different series), but they didn’t have covers. Roadside Magic definitely has an awesome cover too and I am so looking forward to reading it! And of course I’ll post a review 🙂 Thanks!
