This list is maybe a little different than usual because it only has six new books, and the other four are rereads. Turns out I did more rereading this year than I thought! But I feel like any book good enough to make me love it multiple times deserves to be praised multiple times, and these were my genuine ten favorite books this year. So without further ado, here they are, plus a few non-bookish favorites!
Cascade Failure by L.M. Sagas [Audiobook]
This was one of those books that reeled me in immediately. I was so instantly invested in these wonderful characters and their complicated relationships, the writing pulled me in, and the story kept me reading.

Earthflown by Frances Wren
Another book with fantastic characters, so complex and imperfect with so many nuanced and interesting relationships. Also a fantastic writing style, psionic abilities, politics in a dystopian future, and a really great attention to detail.

Bad Romance by E.M. Jeanmougin & Jay Wright
I loved getting to know this side character more, and I just loved him as a character. Not to mention other characters in this series I love, and how interesting it was to see them through this one’s POV, and a great story.
[ My Review ]
The Mars House by Natasha Pulley [Audiobook]
This one was such a surprise because I didn’t really know what it was about. Even as I got deeper into the story, I didn’t really know where it was going, but oh boy was I excited to be along for the ride. This one just wrapped me up in the characters that made me feel conflicted and the weird mysteries I didn’t even know were mysteries and the unexpected delightful moments.
[ My Review ]
Cursed Cocktails by S.L. Rowland [Audiobook]
This was the epitome of cozy fantasy, and I really enjoyed the chill, soft, supportive vibes and just sort of hanging out with these characters while they set up a bar together.
[ My Review ]
The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch [Audiobook]
I loved how sweet and cute this romance was, but I also loved how the more serious stuff was handled in a way that felt realistically heavy but also hopeful, and the holiday aesthetics were a lot of fun.
[ My Review ]
Fight the Tide by Keira Andrews
Onto the rereads! I reread the first two books so that I could finish the trilogy, and though I enjoyed the whole series, the second book is still my favorite. It packs the most emotional punch and has a lot of angst. It really balances the darkness of a zombie apocalypse with the lightness of having people you care about and who care about you. I really felt for these characters and what they were going through.
[ My Review ]
Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo [Audiobook]
A relisten of a favorite, because years later this book was still floating around in my head. It’s such a gorgeously written book with interesting, flawed characters and tension (both the sexual and plot kind) so thick you could cut it with a knife. The audio narration is also a standout for me.
[ My Review ]
Wolf Hall by Harper Fox [Audiobook]
Another relisten of a favorite. Third listen, actually. It’s short, only two hours, which normally doesn’t do it for me, but I just love this one. It sucks me in and makes me feel invested in the characters so quickly, the writing is beautiful, and the story is just the right amount of weird and surreal while still being grounded in the real world. Also another one with standout audio.
[ My Review ]
The Usual Apocalypse by Christine Price
Last but definitely not least, another book I’ve now read three times, and I loved it so much I even bumped up my rating from 4.5 to 5 stars. I love the lovable characters, their slightly angsty but very sexy and sweet romance, the interesting supernatural powers, and the gripping mystery plot. Fantastic book all around.

Favorite Game:
Baldur’s Gate 3
This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one who has visited my blog this year lol. I couldn’t even do a top ten games post because this is basically the only game I played.

Favorite Show:
Interview with the Vampire S2
To be fair, this is pretty much the only show I watched this year, but I think that also says something. That I put the effort and energy into this one. It’s really a great show. Also, I should’ve included Santiago on my top ten characters list, but I forgot, so I’ll give him a shoutout here. I think it was in large part the way the actor played him that made his character so fantastic, but still.

Favorite Movie:
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
I don’t watch that many movies either, but this was definitely my favorite of the ones I did watch this year. The special effects and visuals were really cool, the story was good, the characters were fun, overall a solid movie that I really enjoyed.

Favorite Podcast:
Big Game Hunger
Favorite new podcast, since I do regularly listen to a few great ones! On this one, the host and a guest get a randomly chosen adjective, premise, and type of gameplay and then come up with a game idea based on that. I listened to the whole backlog this year, and it’s a silly, chill, fun podcast that I really like!
